I've really enjoyed the last year or so using a Nock case. It holds two Backpocket journals, a couple of postcards, and three pens, all well protected.

However, if I want to take more pens, I use a case I had before that, and I recently finished it up. This is a hard-shell Serengeti eyeglass case, and I used to just have a long strip of felt folded back on itself a couple times stuck inside, and the pens slipped into the folds. I finally took an hour to make an interior, and now I can carry six full size pens (though I haven't tried a 149 or bigger) both securely and without any rubbing or abrasion between them. Cost me nothing but my time.

(Geez, I need to resize my photos, those are ginormous! Sorry.)

That's very cool. At first I thought the pens were touching. Then I noticed all the felt. :clap2:

Touching? NEVER! :)

Yeah, the felt is glued on very thin cardboard to give some integrity. Neither pen body nor clips can touch on adjacent pens.

That's COOL! Looks hard sided, very protective. I really like that.

Very nice! Looks like you could sneak a cigar (or two) in that case.

I count one Parker 51 and two Sailors -- nice!

Is the Realo taller than the c/c Professional Gear?

Great case, too. :)

Yep: the Realo is about 1/4" longer, mostly the end cap now being a piston filler nob, thought the barrel is just a teeny bit longer. Caps are the same length but not interchangeable, mostly because of the ink window on the Realo (I think that's why).

The other babes in the car are a Waterman Carene, Aurora 88P, and a Wahl/Eversharp Skyline 100 Year in Mosaic.

I -love- it. Though I have to say, that's a pretty ginormous case for just eyeglasses. Much better suited to holding pens. (Btw, this is going into my idea file, for possible copying down the line, if I ever encounter a flip-top case of my own. But you will get full credit for the concept, if I ever make one.)

Very cool! Your hard case has actually beaten me to the punch on something I'd like to try myself (in a 2 or 3 pen capacity context): unequal allocation of the space inside. That way, you still have the option of carrying a lardy fat pen too for the same size of case.

ps - I swear I have seen a "pen case" on alibaba or taobao or something that was literally a pull-apart style spectacle case filled with foam, a hole in the centre!

pps - have a look at how they did things in the old days. The hinges are a bit ugly, but I like the idea of a hard case made from pretty celluloid.

Jon, love the DIY slot work! I have a hard glasses case, but I didn't do the fancy work you did. I took a piece of stiff felt, folded it accordion style, and cut it to fit. It only holds 3 pens, but one of them is urushi and quite safe! Yours is nicer, and I may rethink my folded felt. —Julie
