Pen Stands That Aren't Pen Stands - What Do You Use?

I had been keeping my 4-6 inked pens in an old coffee cup. Not a bad way to store them, but I think I just improved on it. I'm a pipe smoker with more pipe stands than I need for my small collection of pipes. I took a pipe stand I wasn't using for pipes and found that it worked pretty well as a pen stand. Any of you people using something for a pen stand that wasn't originally intended to be for pens? Snap a pic and let us see what you are using.

I've posted this before, but still in use: a Parker desk set that was intended as an ashtray. Not so, anymore. This has been nice, because I try to keep the inked pens down to only what will fit in here, along with my EDC case (3 pens) that goes in the desk drawer when I get home. This set has been very handy, and a nice desk adornment:

Ingenious use of the pipe holder, BillPorter. I gave up pipe smoking many years ago, but I still have my old pipes somewhere and, perhaps, a pipe stand as well. If I can find the a stand I will give your idea a try.

Way back when, when I first got into fountain pens, I bought a toothbrush stand from Target. It was stainless steel, held four "toothbrushes" (pens), and looked pretty elegant on my desk. I no longer use it, but it made a nice pen stand.

Those of you who are or did use a toothbrush holder as a pen holder/stand have convinced me to check some out the next time I am at a store that carries them. And then, when I have some nifty new pen stands (converted toothbrush holders) I will have a great excuse for accumulating more pens! :bump2:

I was answering a question for someone on reddit and thought, hell, I should post here, too! A couple weeks ago I got tired of the 'extra' pens just sitting in a square container, so I made up something new with stuff on hand. The base is a nicely made black box that a watch came in; inside I put a block of black foam that I drilled 9 holes in, and then placed a piece of black foamcore board to separate the end section, in which sits my (diy) EDC with 6 pens. Secure storage for 15 pens, easy to get to, and pretty much no-cost. The photos show the EDC both open and closed.

I use a couple of glass holders that were intended to hold flowers in an arrangement, but actually hold pens and pencils quite nicely.

But I have recently acquired a Napoleon III liqueur cabinet, without its original decanters and glasses, and I'm sorely tempted to build a little pen holding device to fit into it instead...

Yep - a Movado watch came in that box, anniversary present from my special half.

If it's not in it's case (typically leaned up against my monitor), then it's in the coffee mug.

The main one being an Art Prize (2014) mug (shows an etching of Grand Rapids on the side), which is paired with an spent toilet paper roll that I can clip onto (which has been replaced, and clear packing tape lines the top of it to make it more durable). The clear A&W Mini-Mug to the left is usually where I put restored pens that I haven't fully tested yet (ie: giving it a couple days of usage and storing there, in case the sac/etc gives out, it leaks into that visibly rather than the main mug).

And of course bookmarks on the back (mostly Goulet, or Boogie Pop Phantom), of which mechanical pencils hide behind.

:P All the pens there are gone, other than the 75 Cisele.

The Visconti Divina Limited Edition Desert Springs (18K EF) - Sold as I was not happy with the quality, lovely material, but did not like the nib and some QC issues for the price paid
The Pelikan M805 w/ Architect Grind off a Broad nib - Traded for an Aurora Afrika LE w/ 18K M (that writes like a western wet-ish EF)
The Parker 51 Vacumatic in Cordovan Brown and Fine Nib - Sold, was the second chance I gave the model and decided the 51 wasn't for me, prefer the 45s to them.

The Parker 75 Cisele - love it, has a very consistent and nice feeling 14K '63' EF nib, and love the feel of the sterling silver. My only complaint (and it's not a big one) is the triangular shaped grip instead of round.
