Hi all,

I want to share my findings after many failed attempts to buy Tomoe River paper to load into my 20ring binder. I went on to hunt for paper makers that make specific fountain pen friendly Chinese Caligraphy paper and one that sells me at a reasonable price. So I finally found one. Here are some of my writing samples on the paper. The paper is in chinese 16k sizing (260mmX180mm)

I am trying to ship in larger volume to keep the price as low as I can to fellow fountain pen enthusiasts. Currently, I can do per 100 sheet for USD10 USD12 Shipping Included - US from Singapore). I hope to be able to really increase the volume so that I can further reduce the price for everyone.

For those who wants to custom cut the paper like me to fit into A5 binders with 20rings. I have the option to do so, let me know if you need the service. I can now offer custom bulk hole punch 5mm

For those who are interested, please kindly post in this thread and drop me an email at hammondkuek@gmail.com

Cheers
Hammond

Hi Hammond, very interesting paper! What's the drying time like?
I'd be keen but I'm in New Zealand. Would the cost be the same?

Cheers,
Elizabeth

Hi Elizabeth,

Let me do a dry time test for you on this. As the price for NZ shipping can be reduced by 10% to 9USD

Is it a similar weight to tomoe river? I'd need to calculate price but I'd love ot have something light and thin but FP friendly to use to print my Filofax inserts. My current paper is so heavy and thick I can't fit much in my compact binder.

This paper is even thinner and lighter than TR which is 52gsm I think.

Hi Tandaina, the paper is almost half the weight of Tomoe River [30gsm vs 52gsm]. The per piece can be cheaper if you buy whole ream (600pc per ream) as I get bulk rate for that volume. Do let me know if you are keen to try 100pcs. It's quite good after testing writing on it for a week. I am changing all my paper in my 20 ring binder for it. If you need it cut to your compact binder, just let me know the dimensions, I am sure I can work out something for you.

Cheers

An update - all orders have been sent out.

As the final shipping weight exceeded my expectation, I have to adjust my price to accommodate the higher shipping cost. Please refer to my first post for updated price.

All the paper that I sent out are sealed in custom-sized ziploc bag to ensure it reaches you in dry and pristine conditions.

For those that have bought from me, I hope you like the paper when you received it and please post a review on it here!

Cheers!

From current stock, I have about about 700 pcs left. The paper factory made a mistake in the quantity and halved my order.... so resupply in 2 weeks. Do let me know your interest, I will supply you what I have and any backlog can be fulfilled in about 2 weeks.

Cheers and thanks everyone for being so supportive in trying out this alternative to Tomoe River paper!

I want the paper in A5 size so I can punch it to fit my Filofax. It doesn't have 20 rings. Can you email me your PayPal. Is it $10 shipped to the U.S.?

Mine arrived yesterday and I will post a handwritten review on the weekend.

So far I've been using it for my To Do lists for work and it's working well for me.

It's very thin, unimaginably thin. Having said that I really like the way the ink looks on the paper and the fact that no matter how saturated the ink and broad and wet the nib, there's no bleed through (or feathering). Unlike TR paper (which feels thick in comparison), there's too much shadowing to use the reverse side. It also has a different texture to TR paper, dryer and stiffer somehow.

I love that it came in B5 size as that's my preferred paper size. I'm not sure what I'll use it for but I am sure I'll have lots of fun working out a use for it.

Glad you liked it. Yes its unimaginably thin but no bleed through and no feathering.

Got mine and it is very nice.

No feathering and zero bled through. It does have shadowing on the back so you can't write on the backside. I had it on a blank page of a notebook with bright white paper that was lined. I used it as a guide but I was also able to see that even with a wet stub it did not bleed.

The paper is however very thin. Almost like onionskin paper or a tough tissue paper. Nothing wrong with that but I can't see myself making a pocket journal out of it. Using it as an inset page for a card or letter writing it would be great.

One thing I do like is that so far it seems the paper shows the true color of the ink your using.

Last... it does dry within a reasonable amount of time.

Porn ...

Thanks for the review and porn :)

I really agree with you on the part that this paper really brings out the true Color tone of all ink I throw at it. Personally I use this paper as insert pages between my main planner pages as it really cut down thickness of my planner. I will post a picture on how I use it shortly with my newly acquired Onoto (yay finally my first Onoto)

Following are some pictures - apologies for the quality, they're via my iPad using natural light in my office.

The first 2 are both sides of the Calligraphy paper and the second 2 are both sides of TR paper.

This is how I use the chinese caligraphy paper for my day to day writing. Due to the lightweight of the paper, I can pack more pages into my daily planning.

Similar thickness & texture but much better with wet pens and the ink "glows" on the page.

Yes! Aptly describes the effect! The writing seems to have some glow-ish effect and pops out of the paper effect. Of all the inks, many of the J Herbins inks show their true tone very nicely on this paper especially haemitite Rouge.

Hi, this is something to try. I ordered 3 tomoe river books and enjoy the writing.

Question: the schedule that you have on the image what is that and what do you use it for?

:)

That is chronodex planning system by Patrick Ng, based on a clock face. Designed for those who prefer a non-linear planner and feel that a visual representation is easier. How everyone uses is it different. You can pre-schedule things ie. shade/colour etc for upcoming events or you can post-schedule ie. notate how you spent the day as a means of reflection or a combo of those. If you google chronodex and spiraldex, you will see different ideas of how to use the colours/shading to represent different things.

All PMs replied! For those who wants larger quantities, I do order them from the paper mill direct. Takes 1 week to reach me though. Then from here to US is approx 7 working days via postal service and 5-6 working days for Europe.

I am clearing current batch and only left with roughly 1 ream plus. I will reorder soon. If you want to catch this shipment do let me know your orders!

I received mine yesterday and proceeded to pen a 10 page letter on it. Very friendly to fountain pens; definitely not for two-sided use. Very much like onion skin with that satisfying crinkly feel to it.
