My standard size 51 vacs are approximately 5.5 inches long, yes.

How long is the pen body alone, from the nib to the tip of the blind cap? How long is the cap alone?

Does it have a date code on the barrel or any other markings there?

Do you have a standard size 51 to compare to it?

It looks normal to me... Photo with a ruler?

I took out one of mine: 5.5 capped, and pretty much 6 when posted. I'm wondering if the OP has measured the pen posted, and maybe not too accurately, or there is something lodged in the cap?

That would explain it: measured when posted rather than measured when capped. I think the semi-official length of a capped Parker 51, in good old fashioned "English", is 5 3/8 inches.
