**I spelled "Souveran" wrong in the thread title. Whoops. ***

So I ordered an M605 from Richard Binder. I had previously ordered a "binderized" Pilot nib unit for my VP from him, and couldn't be happier with it, so I opted to go with him for the Pelikan as well.
It arrived yesterday and I had a new bottle of Edelstein Aventurine waiting there for it.
I also opted to get the Pelikan one-pen leather case with the green strap, why not. Go nuts.

First, the pictures:

First impressions:

1. It's VERY light, I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing, but I learned quickly that light definitely does not mean low quality.

2. The size. It fits my medium hands quite well. I prefer writing with the cap posted, and this pen allows it. I really like the diameter of the grip and the lip/silver trim line at the bottom of the section.

3. The nib is SUPER smooth. I opted for a Fine nib, as I prefer Western Fines for my everyday writing style.

4. The pen is simply great looking. I wanted to replace my Montblanc 149 in my daily carry, and I think this will do a great job at looking classy and not being matte black...

5. The ink flow is generous without being a gusher. Practically no writing pressure is needed and it starts right up after being left uncapped for a few minutes.

6. The packaging. Not like anything else I currently have. It's nice, but I think the bottom of the box and it's fake wood grain could use a change.

That's it for now, I think I'm going to start doing some handwritten reviews on my collection, I'll be sure to post when I get on that.

Thanks for reading!

Beautiful and delivered to you tuned by the master !!!

I have a simple Pelikan m100 and man is it smooth. They really know how to make a well balanced pen and great nibs.

Nice write up and super pictures.

Thanks for sharing. Enjoy! What a great pen to carry around everyday.

Very classy, I have a M805 in Black, so would love a M605 to match as the M6XX series is more suited to my hand. - A binderized nib is a guarantee of a great writing experience straight out the box. Enjoy!

efj3, nice looking pen and good pictures too. I like the look of the Souveran although I'm really attracted to the blue and black striped ones.
Adventurine is an easy flowing ink in a rich green.

Very nice review. Pelikan is in the list of my three favourite brands. Really nice pens.

Liked your pictures and the pen is beautiful, but that line looks rather thick for a fine. I would have guessed that was a medium.

The line thickness definitely varies. Depending on the ink, it lays down anywhere from a fine to a medium line. With Sailor Nano Black the line leans towards a fine, but with Edelstein Aventurine, it leans more towards a medium. Also, the ruling on the Maruman Mnemosyne pad I used is pretty narrow.

The nib was tuned, and the increased flow may make lines seem thicker than they'd normally be with a fine nib.

I've been carrying the M605 every day for a month and a half, and so far so good. No complaints.

I love the modern souverans. My m400s have been hastle free, inkless (no inky fingers!) pens that are stylish, smooth writing, and hold enough ink to get me through the school week. My vintage one held more ink and did the same thing though... I wish I wasn't such an idiot to sell it...I got it for a mere $73 usd shipped, and I sold it!! I will regret that forever. Might sell some pens at phlilly to get another one though...

Hello efj3, congratulations on your beautiful new Pelikan. I am in a similar situation to you as I currently carry a Montblanc149, but find it a bit large for comfortable shirt pocket carry at the office. I'm torn between a M605 like yours or the M8xx series. I'm not sure how similar the 149 and and the M8xx pens are. Any thoughts?

I think the m800 is smaller by a little bit. Here's a picture: http://www.fototime.com/%7B3F556735-70F2-4878-8565-7A785190DAED%7D/picture.JPG I don't know about weights though. I think the m800 holds more ink though.

Very nice, great choice! I have the M605 in solid blue. It is lighter than my M800 (whose piston mechanism is brass), so it's good for longer writing sessions. The M nib I got is slightly stubbish and writes well.
