Hello Lamy fans (and everybody else interested). The upcoming year 2016 marks the 50th anniversary of the 'official' birth of the Lamy design philosophy and its original flagship pen, the Lamy 2000. The principle of letting renowned designers come up with their own concept of a certain product has since spread into many consumer product lines, most notably in the personal carry knife market. But it appears that Lamy was one of the early promoters of this strategy.
The Lamy 2000 seems to me always fresh (design wise, this is my favorite pen to date, and has been for decades), and it's hard to believe that it has been in production since 1966, with only minor changes and one branching into different materials (the Lamy 2000M in stainless steel).
So, how about you all? Any hopes, expectations or wishes for how Lamy will or should tackle this anniversary? Or are any of you even in the know of what might precipitate?
(Personal dream: Lamy 2000C, rendered completely in carbon fiber; personal nightmares: Lamy says it's time to end this product line after 50 years, or redesigns it to cartridge/converter filling)

Oh dear. Knowing Lamy, if they did anything it would be neon. Or green. Or both. :)

Sorry, their special edition Safaris in recent years have traumatized me.

More seriously, I don't think there's anything they can do to improve on the 2000. Maybe they'll try a different trim. That would be kind of cool. How about using some color for the clip? Or using a shiny clip?

:D - though actually, a neon green L2k...
How about all black - this is the one pen that would really look the part, not just dressed up in 'stealth'

I would like to see a red Lamy 2000. I think Lamy offered this color some years back on a very limited basis, but at a ridiculously high price. It would be great if a red 2000 were offered as a limited edition at a reasonable price.

[QUOTE=Laura N;141109... Or using a shiny clip?[/QUOTE]

Would be easy enough since the 2000M has a polished clip.

There was a single set of all L2k writing instruments auctioned off for a fundraiser in 2013. It fetched US$ 25,000!

I don't think the 2000 was ever offered in red outside the 1 of 1 limited edition they did here http://www.lamy.com/content/news/press/e10330/index_eng.html

It would be nice if they started making replacement nibs.

When I got back into fountain pens, once I'd reacquired the lost pens of my youth, I thought I'd wait till 2016 and get the special edition Lamy 2000, whatever it was, as my first 'different' nice pen. Then Massdrop had a great deal on the current one, and by then I'd discovered vintage Italian pens, so that carefully paced plan didn't last.

So, yes, excited to see what 2016 brings.

Off the top of my head - in ascending order of unlikeliness:

1. Unchanged except for subtle 50th logo and/or Gerd Muller's signature somewhere.

2. Shiny trim. Possibly in rhodium.

3. Gold trim. Used to think gold trim was the obvious choice (50th anniversary = gold, right?), but after getting the Aurora Archivi Storici I wonder if a matte gold section would suit the Bauhaus aesthetic. The effect is quite blingy - surprisingly more so than polished gold. But red isn't too minimal either. Maybe shiny gold would work better, on the clip at least? Or the finial?

(No affiliation, happy customer, etc.)

4. Black, like the 'stealth' Vanishing Point.

5. A retractable. How about taking the Dialog 3 mechanism and retooling it with a Lamy 2000 nib (smaller, less unwieldy) and Lamy 2000 styling? Is that even possible?

Something like this, but a fountain pen.

Maybe they can test market the chinese clones/knockoffs colors of the Lamy 2000 already out in blue, red, and translucent-ish blue for about $40 :P

Well, that does make me think that a legitimate demonstrator Lamy 2000 would be neat.

Thanks for above replies! Laura: Yeah, way to go! There is a clear version of Makrolon available, so that should be a breeze!
I also like the idea of some 'reserved bling' with gold plating - I 'm a sucker for brushed/matte gold finishes. Imagine a gold-plated L2k stainless (OK, maybe that's a bit overboard now...)
The stealth idea would fit in nicely with my drooling over the possibility of a matte C-fiber L2k...
Keep it coming, geeks!

I'd probably get one if Lamy legitimately made one (though would prefer something more like a smoke or other colored demonstrator) and just swap the EF from my existing 2k to it.

Would be interesting to see how a demonstrator model would age (ie: how the 'brushed' look tends to smooth over the years).

Well, since we are designing by committee - a brushed demonstrator with gold trim would be awesome. I would totally buy one.

Shall we submit our excellent committee's ideas and claim the prize from Lamy? :)

With the old 18k nib? That would be great! But looking at the re-issue of the 'Persona' as the 'Imporium' I still have a hunch of a redesign using the modern box nib being possible instead - and turning it into a C/C pen.

Co-incidentally I was going to suggest a re-launch of the Persona as a more fitting celebration of Lamy's anniversary, as it really was considered their flagship pen when it was made. I have to say I much prefer the original tubular nib. I'm not a 2K fan.

looks like the tubular nib is a goner.... but otherwise the Imporium looks much like the original Persona...

...sounds tough with the brushed finish, but how about colored titanium? The pen would be as light as the Makrolon version, as minimalist as the stainless steel version, and available in pretty much any color you like!

I vote for Lamy 2000 in titanium - modern design with modern material for special 50th anniversary edition.

I've never heard of colored titanium. Couldn't they make a red Makrolon? I don't mean a painted Mak, but rather, one that's just flat out red.

Special K - that's what they did with the 1 of 1 edition a couple years ago. Makrolon is available in a large number of colors - including clear and white.

Wood!

Wow, never thought about that - there would have to be a plastic/makrolon inner sleeve to contain the ink, but that's what's inside the stainless 200M anyways, right? Great idea! I really like the 2000 ballpoint pens in taxus and blackwood, well, I like their looks, considering that they are BPs

Have to admit, I saw pix of the 2016 Safari LE in dark lilac, and I'm already saving up. So pretty. I know people like Safaris or don't, but I happen to, and a deep rich purple one is right up my alley. :)
