In the last weeks I made a bunch of pens for customers in China.
Some of them I have allready posted here.
Most Chinese customers are crazy about having their things signed and named.
However, I am posting some pictures of how I make the maki-e writing on my pens.

Best,

Martin

Your work is fantastic. And I love the signatures.

That stripey pen on top -- I've never seen that technique before. Can you tell us a little about it?

Just be glad you don't have to write Chinese characters!

Thank you very much.

The pen with the stripes was made by painting circles of urushi around the barrel and cap and sprinkle it with metal powder, gold, silver, tin, platinum, iron, steel, bronze and mother of pearl powder. Then many layer of transparent lacquer is applied and finally ground and polished.
I have invented this technique last year and I call it Namban-Kawari-Nuri
Namban = Southern Barbarians (Everything that came from outside Japan
Kawari = Experimental
Nuri = Lacquer technique

Wish you all a pleasant weekend

Gorgeous. That second pen looks like a slice of outer space.

I love your work. Thank you for sharing it.
