I’ve had this Norteno box on hand for some time, but had not been able to figure out the best way to repurpose it as a pen box – yes, sometimes it takes a while for an idea to “click” into reality. But, here it is, a small woodgrained box with a hummingbird logo on the lid – just in time for their annual migration.
The Norteno Corona Extra box measures just 8 3/4″ by 6″ by 1″ and will hold six pens, each up to 8 1/8″ long. As you can see from the pictures with some of my own pens in the box, even a Montblanc 149 fits nicely.
This box was originally unfinished wood on the inside, so I stained the edges and my dividers to match closely the exterior color. I have lined the box, the dividers, and even the lid with Hunter Green felt to add to the handsome look and to protect the pens from touching each other or any surface that is not felt.
The bottom of the box is covered with a 2mm thick foam pad for a non-marring, non-slip surface.
