Today I have finished two "Kiseru" pens with a "tame-raden-nuri". Tame refers to a final layer of transparent "sakari-urushi" which is applied on the polished mother of pearl inlay. Through the honey colored urushi, the abalone mother of pearl fragments turn from boe and green to purple, red, orange and yellow. It is almost impossible to capture the reflexes on a photograph.

Best regards,

Martin

Those are very pretty, wish I could afford them. :)

Question, on the uncapped pics you can see that the gold/brass ring at the base of the cap seems to also line the cap? So are these entirely metal lined? How heavy are they?

Stunning pen. It reminds me of the Hubble Deep Field (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/21/Hubble_Ultra_Deep_Field_NICMOS.jpg) photo.

Hello,
It is only a small ring that stabilizes the cap and give it a slight gold touch. The pens in general are ebonite only. To be mentioned that urushi is very hard. Once the urushi is harden on the ebonite it becomes very strong
