And there are people willing to pay $400 for those inks. Personally, I wouldn't pay more than $40 a bottle.

Someone on FPN said not to bid, and I'll just repeat that. It'll just encourage the a****** to do this more. This isn't much different from ink speculating.

Not seasonal, however each run in the four series (5 bottles in each series), were made in limited quantities for the original production runs. It is the vase-shape bottles that drives up the prices, because of demand from Chinese buyers.

I think it will go higher, but most likely because of the hype. Even if you are buying for a group, you are still sitting at 80$ per bottle now which is insane.

I think these will definitely go higher. A single bottle of ink fetched $185 recently. Chinese buyers pay four times the original price, just for an empty vase-shaped bottle. The five Kingdom Note bottles were originally only 2000 yen. It's like the Dutch Tulip Bubble all over again.

I can you...yes...Chinese medicine bottles have interesting packaging. Of course the medicines inside might leave lingering odors. BB ink that smells like ben-gay. [emoji6]

I'm guessing part of the allure to these inks is the bottle. I'm surprised sailor isn't figuring out a manufacturer to produce them again. Has anyone heard anything?

The manufacturer has gone under.
The supply is hard to get for these bottles so unless the shops switch to the jar/flat top/jentle ink bottles, the shop will have limited supply which would be unpredictable. The limited supply would be enough to serve Japan, but definitely not outsiders.

It is a shame that they cannot find a glass maker company to do these for them. They could put the word out on what they are looking for, in glass manufacturing companies worldwide. These companies may not realize that there is a demand for these type of bottles!

It's not that they can't be made. There are already manufacturers capable of producing these ink bottles. The issue is that they can't be made at, or near, the original price that Sailor was paying for them.

Lady O - it was a 5 bottle set of Kingdom Note inks, not 8 bottles, which makes the $511 even more ridiculous. Makes it tempting to sell my full set of the four series of KN inks though! How much might I get for all 20 bottles? LOL.
(seriously, I won't ever sell. I love using the inks too much).

If people are rich enough and desperate enough to pay those prices, then sellers are bound to step up and provide a supply. It makes good business sense to do so.

It's a bit like some of the Montblanc LE inks, e.g. Sakura. Some go for crazy prices, but only because there are people who are prepared to pay them.

I noticed a regular ebay ink seller who listed 5 bottles of Mb Leonardo that all sold at a higher price than I would have been prepared to pay. However, he then got greedy and really hiked up his already high price for his next listing, plus other sellers came in with bottles at similarly high prices, but they didn't sell. Nor will they sell until these sellers work out that there is a price ceiling above which buyers won't pay.

Once the original flurry of people willing and able to pay ridiculously high prices has been satisfied, the prices will probably settle back down again. :)

There's a huge Chinese demand for these inks. Even the empty bottles sell for high prices on their equivalent of eBay. There is also an informal network of Chinese buyers trying to find certain inks/bottles/labels & nab them before they get to market. I have been contacted 5 times, via FPG & FPN members, by Chinese "spotters", alerted that I have certain bottles. When I put up a classified to trade one of my bottles of Sweet Potato Purple I was swamped with messages. I could have sold for well over $130 if I'd had a mind to do so.

Yes, it is a "tulip bulb" market bubble & it will fizzle out eventually, but there are still many buyers, with plenty of money to spend, who will keep the prices inflated for a while yet, or until Sailor (possibly) start using vase bottles again, and start producing in bigger volumes.

Ps if you've got any of the cream-coloured cap vase bottles you could be sitting on a gold mine LOL ;-)
