On this pen I tried to imitate a Japanese metal work, a worn rusty iron surface with a "shakudo" flying sparrow inlay. A touch of wabi sabi.
The metal like ground was achieved by sprinkling various metal powders. The inlay was directly built on the ground. Many layers saturated with charcoal powder, finally lacquered, details engraved and polished

Best regards,

Martin

The inlay is quite something. What is it made out of, if I may ask?

It is a high relief "takamaki-e" work. Built up with urushi lacquer and charcoal powder, layer after layer

:hail: Wow! That is something else. Is the ring around the cap brass or bronze that will eventually tarnish to match the finish of the pen? Right now, it looks out of place with its shininess. I know, everyone's a critic. Sorry about that.

I"m with RNHC! It's gorgeous, Martin! I love the little sparrow, particularly.

I agree with Lady Onogaro, the sparrow is gorgeous! My mom loves birds and would adore this pen, I'm sure.

Thank you guys.
I have spent some time thinking about the ring but decided to keep it shiny.
The ring is brass, first Palladium then gold plated. Brass shall be first Palladium plated to prevent the brass to absorb the gold

Have a great weekend

The gold ring sets the pen off nicely; glad you did it.
