I used..and drew...mine...
Hopefully you can tell what it is even taking my 'drawing skills' into consideration.

Sketched in my hobonichi on today's date as I was waiting for my haircut.

Ah true, maybe I should have provided a legend :)
From left to right;
- 90's Tag Heur watch,
- Persol sunglasses,
- 4711 Unisex cologne (the formula has stayed the same for over 200 years (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4711))
- white Wilkinson injector razor (either a prototype or some other rare beast...never seen a white before),
- New Forest two-band badger shaving brush,
- Calepino notebook and Parker 51 pen in burgundy/black
- Pinaud Lilac Vegetal after shave - decanted into a small, vintage glass Pinaud bottle
(The Pinaud Lilac Vegetal was originally formulated in the 1800's for Hungarian cavelry...and people either hate...or love it (http://blog.fendrihan.com/2012/06/pinaud-lilac-vegetal-after-shave-lotion-is-not-for-the-meek-and-mild/)... :)

4711 Unisex cologne (the [URL="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4711"]formula has stayed the same for over 200 years

That would be nice, but no, I don't think so. It's still pretty good, but no way it's the same formulation as in 1816.

The basic formula is certainly always the same, but eau de cologne is always vulnerable to rules about what chemicals are allowed.

Quite possible. Fundamentally the base ingredients [URL="http://www.perfumeprojects.com/museum/bottles/4711.shtml"]have stayed the same over the past 200 years (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4711) - citrus oils, rosemary, lavender, alcohol and water - but what/if any alterations have been made to other components is hard to tell especially since the full recipe is a well guarded secret.

The 4711 scent itself is rather polarizing - some people immediately think of their grandmother when they smell it and others, such as myself, get a really nice, summery scent from it.
Unfortunately it has very poor lasting power.
Then again, it's fairly inexpensive (I got my 10oz bottle on a special deal for $2) and fun to splash on from time to time. Regardless if I smell as someone in 1816 or not ;)

I just replaced its diaphragm. Spent more time scraping the old diaphragm which stuck to the barrel like a leech.
Lucky me this one has an aluminum pellet socket, so I don't have to fight to get the ball out *and* make sure that I don't slip and destroy the brittle rubber one.

I am not really eligible to comment because I am using an Edison pen today, but I do like 4711 and have it on right now. I have happy memories of using it to freshen up on German railway platforms as a child, because they sold it in vending machines for that purpose.

This one.
A button-filler like a lot of Parker pens from this era.
4-3/4 inches capped, a very nice Parker medium stub nib.
Green gold pattern I've never seen before.
It just says "Parker" on the barrel (with the usual Geo S. Parker ... Trademark).
It seems to be clipless. No holes for a ring on the top, no broken clip, the black top does not screw open like a duofold.

What model is this?

A 75 Custom in burgundy. Lovely fluted gold-plated cap. It looks like a rich pen. To my regret, the nib has been a disappointment, although I can at least delude myself that its output is gradually getting better. So any onlooker who envies me my opulent pen is misdirecting his envy.

My daydream is to own in addition a 75 Flighter with a wonderful nib. The Flighter looks almost pointedly unpretentious. In that case knowledgeable pen fanciers who wish I'd bought myself a nicer pen will be mistaken in their own way.

Thank you for reviving this useful thread:

Vintage (and not so vintage) Parkers are quite popular among young people who are "intermediate" FP user.

For instance, I recently was asked by one of my customers to look for a Parker 50 for her. So I found this cool one, sporting a factory stub nib. <--- very uncommon.

Hard to equal lsmith42's first year 51. Aluminum jewels do speak of the Age of Flight. With some diffidence: today it's been a 51 Demi with GF cap and a 75 Custom, both with nominal medium nibs, the Demi a generous medium, the 75 a smooth but rather withdrawn fine.

I had to dig back to find my post. It concerned a Vacumatic. I did avoid them for a long time before giving in and trying another. I had to resac it, and replace the filler. I used a brass filler unit offered on ebay with sac installed. I think now that I must have done something wrong in the installation process, because I can press the filler many times and little ink is loaded. Otherwise it writes a nice extra fine. It seems to run out of ink fast, so I leave it alone now. It is nice to look at, and I hang onto a number of pens I don't write with because they look nice and are pen history. I am not buying any more Vacumatics, though.

The new vector says that it's made in France but the finish is not as good as the old one... the clip is "open" and any idea on how to tighten it would be welcome
However, the nib section looks good, and fitted perfectly in my old pen and the cap clicked again.

42959Not a pen restorer. There may be a way to disassemble and if so bending it when disassembled not (or replacing) seems to be the safest option to me.

Not sure how easily those clips fatigue and break. If it were me and if the pen wasn't too expensive I might try carefully using thin needle nose pliers wrapped in electrical tape to hold the base of the clip at the top and bend by applying pressure near to the factory bend. I defer to gurus. YMMV. Standard disclaimers apply. Use at your own risk. Professional driver, closed course. Etc. :)

Hi,

I've taken Vectors apart. The cap is held together by a screw (philips, if I recall) that's covered by the black or white sticker that sits at the top of the cap. If you're super-careful removing the sticker, there's a possibility that you might be able to put it back. Otherwise, look for a similar material and cut your own new sticker for it.

These pens are cheap and abundant enough on ebay, so if the clip fails (breaks), it shouldn't be difficult to transplant another pen's clip (you could get a black one and make your pen unique). Or you could use the clip of your new one to fix the one you got in the 80's, which you like better anyway.

Parker 45 Classic that just arrived last night. It came with a lot of dried up ink. The body is in very lightly used condition. The nib in it now is kind of meh.

Anyway I had loaned my other 45 (with NOS F nib that is womdeful) to a friend with a hand injury and she likes it so much I am going to give it to her with a bottle of ink and a converter and wiping cloth.

I've come to realize that with a good nib, 45s tick all the boxes for me and then some. So this is a replacement :)

The 45 is one of my all-time favorite pens too. It's a masterwork of simplicity combined with superb engineering. I don't think there's a more serviceable pen than this.

Check out sellers kullock and penpartsstore on ebay. Sometimes they have interesting customized versions of this pen.

Parker IM with fine nib. It's the pen that I usually carry in my bag, as it's cheap enough not to worry about and writes quite nicely.

A little story here in praise of Parker. I initially ordered the pen from Staples in a presentation box to give as a Christmas present. When it arrived, the box was a bit scruffy. I didn't really feel I could give it as a present, but there wasn't time before Christmas to send it back and ask for a replacement. It was only £20, so I kept it for myself and bought another to give (for £10) without the presentation box from a local stationers.

The recipient was very pleased with her gift, but I wasn't at all happy with mine. It didn't write very well. I kept thinking that I really should send it back to Staples, but had other priorities.

Fast forward just over a year. I came across the papers for my pen, and noticed that it had a two year guarantee. I contacted Parker and explained that I'd never been happy with the pen. They asked me to send a photograph of the item, and shortly after a brand new one was delivered to me. No questions asked, no need to send the faulty one back.

I was very impressed with this service, as I am usually accustomed to having to argue every step of the way. Thank you Parker!

Beautiful writing, and of course a Great pen:)

Just inked up the 41. Previously, I'd run some Lamy Blue in it. Worked fine, but the nib is as close to EF as any of my Parkers in the 51/41/21 family, so I wanted something a little wetter. Initial tests are looking good with the Aurora.

I have found that several 51 pens I have are smoother than any other type of pen I have, including Montblanc, Pelikan and Waterman. Most of the 51s I have are sublime, whether octanium or 14K, on demi or full size vintage 51s. I have really noticed the superior smoothness of the 51 nibs lately, after putting away most of my other pens. Except for Esterbrook. Needing less of a qualified description, a 51 Demi Special with a generous medium Octanium nib that just writes in the most satisfactory way. Pelikan 4001 black in both pens.

I've inked and used this one: A timely find, I had put a snipe on this pen when it was on auction during the ten days of the late Queen Elizabeth's mourning period. I lucked out and received it this week from London. The pen was originally made in the Canadian Parker factory, and exhibits, among other things, the lovely flexible nibs that enterprise was known for. The only real flaw is that the affixing of the crown element on the cap has had an effect on the hard rubber, which I'll correct, but the inscription on the barrel is still very clear. I'll use this when his grandson is crowned in the coming months.

Great pen now you have it in your hands. :) The finial area surrounding the crown seems to be quite damaged. Do you believe that someone was trying to remove the crown? I'm very surprised if that's the case they seem to have failed in that attempt as I thought Parker Duofold finials weren't fixed on that strongly.

To be honest, I can't quite tell, but it *looks* as though the adhesive may have reacted over time with the hard rubber. The pitting is fairly even around the entire part, making it less likely it is physical damage from a removal attempt. I believe I have a donor cap top I would swap and just transfer the crown element. This is the kind of repair/alteration I'll think about for a good while before attempting anything.

And another 51 Vac today. A cedar blue 51. Fault is too strong a word but it has a ring of ink stain about 1cm down the barrel, after trying in vain to polish it away and failed I decided that I wanted to keep it as it was.

I do not normally buy or choose to write with an extra fine nibbed pen but this was a honey, so smooth with such a crisp line.

The cap has been polished like the finest silver but again that is all part of the charm.

I’m surprised no one has pounced on this 👇🏻👇🏻, has anyone ever come across a 'screw cap' genuine 45. ??
C'mon you 45 wizards and collectors 🤔😀

I have several Parker 45's though I now only tend to look for Coronet examples. Not one of my Parker 45's has a screw cap. That doesn't mean I know why your pen has a screw cap because I don't know enough about Parker 45's to comment on if there was ever one issued or if there was a smilier pen manufactured with a screw cap. :noidea::noidea:

Firstly, are you certain that it is a 45 and not a 1970 or so onwards Slimfold which had the same nib unit and clip as the 45 but sold at a lower price because there were no internals to the cap.

You can still see screw cap Slimfolds at pen shows that are new and unused.

The colour of your pen would suggest Slimfold and not 45 but the acid test is the length, the 45 is 136mm and the Slimfold is 128mm.

7891378914Excellent people , thanks I can only think you’re right. I didn’t know the 'slimfold' was so similar to the 45… good work 👍🏻👍🏻
The 'Slimfold' then is Top, and a 45 bottom. There are differences.

Ya learn something new every day 👴🏻🙏

So…this slimfold I have is easily as nice to use as the 45s and the lack of cap clutch etc doesn’t detract from its writing at all !!
It’s a bit like the difference between the 51 and 21 …..there’s really nothing in it ! I have 21s that write nicer than my 51s , and they feel pretty much similar in the hand…I guess a few milligrams of weight and a few dollars less fits into a 'market niche' that would otherwise have been missed ?
There’s quite a few Slimfolds on the bay, but they don’t do you any favours on price for them !!! Which is …odd

I think what always threw me…was the later model Parker , which often gets called simply Slimfold , and has an exposed nib , was actually called a Duofold slimfold !? and the 45 lookalike was called a 'new Slimfold'

It seems to have gotten a bit confusing with the Duofold/ Slimfold/ names after the 45 period …same with all the different names for the 45 ……Arrow/ special/ deluxe/ etc Not to mention the made up names that sellers sometimes put on pens 🤣🤣

And don’t get me started on Rare / super rare/ etc

I used a Parker IM Special Edition Midnight Astral earlier today. I like its medium nib. I currently have a plain ole black cartridge in it which I’m using up so that I can load it with other inks instead.

I wrote with a UK Duofold Maxima in black. It has a medium nib and writes wonderfully well. It's filled with Blue/Black by Diamine. I also used a Duofold Vacumatic (senior?) in green.

PARKER 51 (early 40s)
My father in law gave me his old P51 and I sent it to Tim @Parker51 for overhaul.
While I never liked the aesthetics of the 51, I recognize this is a wonderful EDC pen.
