FS: Waterman 54 with a #2 flexible crisp italic nib. $175 shipped to CONUS
Ok, this pen needs some explanation. And probably an exorcism. I purchased this pen from Susan Worth several years ago when I was but a wee lad in the world of fountain pens. I have learned many things since then. Like, carry a loupe, haggle, and just put the pen down and walk away a richer man. Not knowing these things back then I happily spent a crapload of money on this pen. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad pen, Susan did a great job installing a new sac and making sure it wrote, and it's been a blast to use. Now that I know how to repair my own pens I tend to lean more toward cheap klunkers I can restore myself.
I spent $250 on this pen way back when but there is no way I am going to charge anyone near that much considering:
It appears the nib has been retipped to a nice wide italic, I would estimate 1.1mm to 1.5mm. It was then reground by a criminally insane person hopped up on espresso and wielding a chainsaw. There are grind marks everywhere. Even places they shouldn't be. If you look at this nib with a loupe part of your brain will also become criminally insane. The breather hole has a crack starting to form. It was that way when I bought it and I addressed many an envelope with this pen and it hasn't gotten any bigger so as long as you don't go flex crazy it should be fine. Otherwise there are a few places that can weld it for you but I'm not dropping any more money into this pen. The pen is a Waterman 54 but the nib appears to be a #2 nib. It's not much to look at but the nib is fan-freaking-tastic to use. It is a nice crisp italic and is also flexible. It's why I bought the pen in the first place. I haven't used this pen since picking up my new envelope addressing pen, the Franklin Christoph Model 66 with a Music nib. I would rather sell this one to someone that will enjoy using it rather than it collect dust in my drawer-o-pens. Photos:
