A book that covers broader areas of theory, or takes a more advanced look. These aren't necessarily connected but either would be considered.

A book that covers broader areas of theory, or takes a more advanced look. These aren't necessarily connected but either would be considered.

For starters, I'd pair Harmony by Walter Piston with The Study of Counterpoint by J. J. Fux. That covers two wide areas of Western music, and after that you could get into orchestration to give variety to the stuff you've written.

You question was awfully vague, so I've gone with sources that have been relied upon for decades.
