Today dawned gray and rainy. I needed something to brighten my mood. My collection of Aurora Optimas did the trick! My pictures aren’t the greatest. You should see the color of these babies in person! And if the sun were shining…

I think they look especially nice in this great Aurora box I was able to obtain. But it seems there are some empty spots! One will hold my Optima Monviso when it arrives in a few weeks. I have a red capped Demonstrator and an 85th Anniversary Optima on my radar, but haven’t found just the right ones yet.

Does anybody else like Optimas?

That's a lovely collection. It ,it's be tempting to go mad and fill the box with new pens.

Are you planning on buying a sterling silver version? That's e only Optima I have and I like it! :)

Thanks!

I am on the lookout for an 80th Anniversary Optima, which is sterling silver with a burgundy piston knob and section. I'm hoping to find just the right one, hopefully pre-owned, at just the right price.

How about posting a picture of your Optima?

I sure do. :) I'll have to get my current group together for a photo, too.

And that box looks fantastic.

Yes, very much so! My Optima is in emerald green "Auroloide" that came new from Jim Rouse when he managed the downtown Baltimore location of Bertram's Inkwell. I credit this pen for launching me into modern fountain pens and leading to vintage fountain pens. I particularly like the removable nib unit with ebonite feed and the shape of the section. Along the way, I picked up a used matching ballpoint. I've bought and sold many pens, but the Optima stays with me.

Now I'll have to go ink it up!

Fred

P.S. Here's a retailer's photo which brings out the color:

I will have to dig it out of the pen roll when I get home at the weekend :)

I only have one. I think it's like the first one in your picture, the blue one with gold trim. These days it's been my first choice and it's inked with J. Herbin 1670 Bleu Ocean.

I bought it for a song many years ago as it was swollen from standing in a store's window in the sun for who knows how long. After a few years stored in the shade all the swelling disappeard. It has a factory italic nib that is just fantastic.
