Good day Everybody, have a difficulty to decide which way to go.

I would like to buy a ballpoint and a pencil to carry with my fountain pens. I would like to buy both the chrome and gold versions. So it would be 4 items in total: 2 ballpoints and 2 pencils. I decided to buy plain black versions as it would be more versatile and would perfectly complement other pens in my collection. However, after investigating the prices, i found out the price of K200 / D200 is almost twice! less then the price of K400 / D400 and i cannot find any difference apart from few small accents.

Can anyone please explain what is the reason of that difference in price and whether it is worth to pay the premium for K400 / D400? Maybe there is a difference in mechanisms (especially in pencils)?

Thank you in advance for helping me! Your every opinion is important for me.

I have a couple of K200 and K400 ball point pens. The K400 has a few gold toned touches around the push button. I only bought the K400 NOS for $72 because I had the green striped fountain pen to go with it. I bought a K215 chrome trim ballpoint in the circles pattern NOS with all packaging for $18. No reason, other than that these are my favorite ballpoints for use in the supermarket. Possibly you might find something NOS rather than paying retail.

Pajaro, thank you for the answer. What about the built quality... K200 vs K400... is it the same? Are the threads of the ballpoint metal on both? what about the size (length and the girth) are they the same? Just want to know if they are very identical no need for centemetres. :)
Do they both use the same refill? Thanks a lot!!!

The K400 and K215 have metal threads. I believe the K200 has plastic threads. These pens use a Pelikan refill that is just like a Parker Jotter refill, and you can use a Jotter refill in any. The size is the same for K200 and K400. These pens are much wider than a Jotter.

K215 is heftier than K400 or K200. K400 and K200 are about the same.
