I received this pen in a trade, but since I already have 9 other Aurora Optimas, it has mostly sat in my pen box and has received little use. I thought I’d see if anyone might be interested in a trade.
The Aurora Afrika Limited Edition is often thought to be the best looking piece of Aurora’s Continent series of pens. It is based on the Optima model and features an amber and black swirled celluloid pattern which is slightly different on each pen, making each unique. Tribal shields on a black field encircle the cap, the clip bears a map of Africa and the cap jewel is ebony. This piece is number 2888 from the Limited Edition of 7500.
The pen is piston filled with an ink capacity in excess of 1 ml. A clear ink window allows the user to determine when ink level is low. The 18k gold nib is a Medium. Like all Optimas, this pen features Aurora’s “Hidden Reservoir” system. When the pen seems to run out of ink, twist the piston knob open and you get enough ink to allow you to write another page or so.
The pen measures approximately 5 inches capped and 6 1/8 inches posted. It has been very lightly used, and is complete with boxes, booklet, and unopened bottle of ink.
I’m not even sure what I’d like to receive in trade. I generally prefer contemporary to older vintage, and I like Italian pens, Pelikans, Nakaya, or maybe Sailors, especially with broader nibs. I’m kind of bored today, so if you like the Afrika, I'm open to hearing your ideas. Try me out!
