I have 3 lovely vintage Sheaffer offerings for you all this evening, all fully-restored and ready to write. The first is a gold-filled Snorkel Triumph set:

2. c. 1957-9 Sheaffer Snorkel Triumph (Gold-Filled). Pen measures 5 5/8" capped, 6 3/8" posted. Pencil measures a hair under 5" capped. Gold-filled exterior with repeating 5-line pattern. Cartouche for engraving on barrel makes this a slightly later model (see Jim Gaston's excellent article on these and other details of the Triumph model here: http://www.m.penhero.com/PenGallery/Sheaffer/SheafferSnorkelTriumph.htm). Two-toned triumph nib lays down a, firm, smooth, and consistent FINE line. Sheaffer's Snorkel pen featured the most complex filling system ever made. It is outfitted with a snorkel tube that extends from the base of the nib when the blind cap is unscrewed. One then pulls the blind cap back to extend the touchdown tube from the rear of the pen, then immerses the snorkel tube in the ink. Press down on the touchdown tube, and voila.

Condition (pen): Excellent. No chips, cracks, brassing, personal engravings, capping or nib issues. All parts present and correct. None of the dings one typically finds on these pens but for two very minor flea bites on the very crown of the cap (too small to capture well with my camera, but you can see for yourself that they don't detract from the shape of the top as does the more common degree of denting exhibited by the pencil). Like the PFM I'm selling, this pen was completely disassembled, cleaned, and all seals were replaced along with the sac in the last month. The filling mechanism is guaranteed to operate smoothly and fill to factory capacity.

Condition (pencil): fully functional, but not as nice as the pen cosmetically, showing a couple dings on the barrel, cap, and crown as captured in the photos.

Price: Purchase this set for less than its original retail price (when adjusted for inflation):

The second vintage Sheaffer is a Sheaffer PFM I Snorkel in the elegant green and silver combination:

1. c. 1960 Sheaffer PFM I (Green). Measures a hair under 5 1/2" capped, and a comfortable 5 5/8" posted. One of the most ergonomic vintage pens ever made, imho, featuring: a clutched cap mechanism, like the Parker 51's but smoother with a satisfying 'click' for feedback; Sheaffer's famous Rube Goldberg snorkel filling mechanism for a clean fill even from the very bottom of the bottle, and a section that narrows as your fingers move closer to the nib to fit the raccoon pawed and hamfisted alike! The trim is chrome plated to match the palladium silver inlaid nib. The nib is an unusual factory stub, laying down a buttery smooth and consistent M line - see writing sample. The PFM operates like any other snorkel filler – the most complex filling system ever made. It has a snorkel tube that extends from the base of the nib when the blind cap is turned. After extending the tube and pulling the blind cap back to extend the touchdown tube from the rear of the pen, one immerses the snorkel tube in the ink, presses down, and voila.

Condition: Excellent. No chips, cracks, brassing, personal engravings, capping or nib issues. Just some micro-scratches from drawer wear. All parts present and correct. Deep, fully-legible imprint on the back of the cap. In the last month, this pen was completely disassembled, cleaned, and every seal has been replaced along with the sac. The filling mechanism is guaranteed to operate smoothly and fill to factory capacity. A collector-grade example of this pen.

Price: SOLD (thanks Laura!)

My final vintage Sheaffer offering tonight is on the more unusual side of the spectrum. It's a full-sized Sheaffer Balance set in Marine Green marble, a color and configuration that's common enough. But what sets it apart is the scarce super-flexible factory Lifetime nib on the pen. Check out the line variation on this one!

3. c. 1930 Sheaffer Balance Lifetime set, full-sized (marine green marble). Pen measures roughly 5 1/2" capped and 6 1/4" posted. Pencil measures 5 1/4". Mid-length, humped ball clip dates the pen to 1930 or 1931 according to Richard Binder's profile. Sheaffers from the 30s onward are known for having nibs like nails, smooth but very little flexibility. Many of their #3/33 and Junior nibs, I've noticed, are semi-flex. Factory flex nibs like this one are few and far between indeed. The elongated profile of the tines on this Lifetime nib give it away. And sure enough, it lays down a smooth, consistent EF line that flexes to a BBB+(?) at full-pressure, very much comparable to the Waterman #5 Pink nib I once had (see historical sales on FPN for my listing) in terms of line variation and snap-back. This would make for a consummate Copperplate or Spencerian writer. Truly delightful.

Condition (pen): Excellent. No chips, cracks, personal engravings, capping or any of the brassing so common to these pens. Color is not bad really, though not as bright as it once was. No thread issues or nib issues. All parts present and correct. No wear to the deep, fully-legible imprint. Fully restored recently with new sac and guaranteed to fill and write as described or your money back.

Condition (pencil): fully functional and in similar cosmetic condition but for a melted mark about the size of the tip of your finger to the back of the cap toward the top.

Price (set): SOLD (on another board)

Hello, do you still have the snorkel Triumph?
