I want to get my hubby a fountain pen, as his belated Valentine's day gift. But I am having a hard time finding a pen. So, i thought i would ask you lovely people for suggestions. Here are his requirements
* Sturdy - He needs a pen that can take a beating, and keep on ticking.
* Cartridge or converter that holds a "good" amount of ink, But it must take international cartridges and converters
* interchangeable nibs
* inexpensive but still good "quality" (because I injured myself at work, I don't have a lot of funds to spend on the pen of our dreams, sigh)

Lamy Safari might be a good try.

The Safari uses proprietary cartridges and they want International carts.
Thinking about it...

Some of the Malaysian & Singapore eBayers offer a free converter with the Safari along with a cartridge. Pens-Pencils also offer a choice of nibs.

These are really good deals for Australia as the base price of a Safari is around $39-$49 + $9-10 for the converter. Maybe not as good for the USA.
mmm I still need a black Safari.

Most deliveries take about 2-3 weeks so it would be a very belated gift.
What about a Platinum Preppy ?
It would certainly fit the inexpensive requirement.
I think they come in 0.3 or 0.5 nibs (EF or F sizes ?)

Monteverde Artista Crystal seems to be your best bet, I think. International C/C, comes with the converter, and pretty cheap. But then again, the nibs aren't interchangeable...

There is going to have to be some give and take. I don't think all the requirements can be met by one pen.

True, and this is what I told him. And he clarified that by interchangable he wants the nib and feed to come out for easier cleaning.

Hmmm, in that case, is the artista crystal's nib easy to pull out?

Yes it is.
