The GouletPenCo has the Neon Yellow Safari up with an expected date of April2013

From the photos it looks a distinctly different yellow from the regular one. Some of our road signs are a similar yellow but they glow in the dark.
I wonder if this does too ?
I noticed they have
Body Material: Neon yellow resin
Is this going to be any different from the regular ABS plastic Lamy make their usual Safaris from ?

Im getting a little tired of the light colors that have been coming out. I need a deep blue or an all black stealth or a red black combo pen.

The Charcoal Safari is fairly stealthy. And in some lights it could be confused with an Al-Star too.

I don't know what sort of philosophy Lamy has behind its Safari & Al-Star colour choices recently but I really would like to see a dark green or purple Safari in the near future.

I want them to bring back the orange. Or even a neon orange in keeping with their current trend. I want an orange one bad, but I can't bring myself to pay what they are going for on Ebay.

I'd also like to see some "colored" Vistas. Some with transparent blues, greens, oranges, or whatever.

Bogon07

A new Rhodia Orange would be handy for coordinating your stationary as the last one was a couple of shades too dark although it matches the orange band on Whitelines covers.
I can think of three versions of the Orange Safari: "Flame" orange with red clip
Orange with a cross on the cap
Orange with an orange cap dot (a re-release was available in Asia late 2011)

It is a wonder Lamy has not produced any coloured Vistas todate. A smokey grey similar to the Al-Star section would be a handsome and business like pen.

I wonder if tinted vistas might not look a bit cheap... I often find coloured transparent plastic looks rather brittle and flimsy. Also, it might make the regular Vista stand out less.

Life is too short to waste money on butt-ugly pens. I swear, there must be a hallway full of designers, muttering "We must find a new butt-ugly color!"

I don't know how to translate "butt-ugly" into German.

I don't know. Think about all the colored TWSBIs out there. I have a Pilot Custom Heritage 92 in blue transparent that I absolutely love.

Plastic, as with many materials, comes in many grades. I am not an engineer, but I doubt Lamy would have a problem sourcing and using quality plastics.

Lamy uses ABS. It may be something about ABS that doesn't make some of our color requests a problem.

More likely the neon thing is just testing well with the home target audience and/or works with domestic joint marketing ventures. IIRC the latter is why they went Orange so much. Yes, I'm suggesting American tastes may very much be an afterthought.

The colours are very much dictated by the home market-certain colours do not 'work' in Germany.

The new colour is a highlighter pen type yellow, there will also be a new Al-Star colour coming...matt black, with a black clip.

Lamy can be a bit like Sony (heaven forbid) releasing different colours in different regions. I think last year or the before they had a slightly different set of Safaris available in a few European countries, Pink instead Aquamarine according to the online catalogue.

It is worth noting that Lamy list the Safari, Joy, Nexx and surprisingly the Al-Star under Young Writing not High-Quality or Modern Office so bright colours are not unexpected for them.

Didn't pink predate aqua by one year?

Bogon07

Didn't pink predate aqua by one year?

Or more (?) It was odd; only for three countries too IIRC, Austria, Belgium and ????

mmmmm according to a list of Safaris the pink was issued atleast twice:
2009 - cap has a pink dot
2011 - cap has a pink cross

There is a thread over on FPN which details all the Safaris.

I wouldnt mind a red stealth...they could just offer the clips like they do nibs..put a black clip on what ever pen you wanted. I could go for a maroon no purple though.

I'll be getting one if I can. And maybe go for the black nib option if available. There is still plenty of room in the Safari box for a few more.
I suspect this yellow may grow on you over time. It seems sort of cleaner than the original when they are side-by-side.

Lamy base the colour of the special Safari's on the colour that is going to be in fashion in the summer of that year - apparently yellow is back in fashion this year. From what I understand it's going to be like a highlighter yellow.

I'd like to see a purple too but I guess we'll have to wait until purple comes in to fashion.

I've noticed a few places doing pre-orders for the neon yellow safari but the seemingly cheapest I've found is somewhere called The Pen and Paper. http://www.penandpaper.co.uk/products/lamy-safari-neon-yellow-2013-special-edition-fountain-pen---pre-order.html (http://http://www.penandpaper.co.uk/products/lamy-safari-neon-yellow-2013-special-edition-fountain-pen---pre-order.html)

I think I'll probably get it, is anybody getting it.

P.s I'm new to the forum.

Hi James_S and welcome to the Lamy subforum.

I think there are a lot of people wishing for a purple Safari.

I wonder which fashion Lamy follow ?
Last year or the the one before I recall the fashion colour was a sort of peach but didn't really notice it about anywhere.

Whaaaa $640 for a Safari. I like them but not that much. For that sort of price I'd buy a couple of regular ones and experiment with some spray cans.

About a year or so ago, I saw one selling for $200. I already found that over the top. :p But I do wish Lamy would bring back this color.

I have been waiting years for purple, and I'm not holding my breath. But I think Lamy did orange recently. At least, I have one.

I also hope Lamy considers reissuing some of the popular ones from way back. The secondary market has gone nuts for them; Lamy should benefit from some of that enthusiasm, as well as give new buyers a chance to get them.

I just got the neon yellow Safari, as well as the Al-Star in black, from Cultpens. As an aside, I am very happy with their prices and quick shipping in this my first transaction.

I have to admit, I like the color more than I thought. It is incredibly bright, so I probably won't use it, but it's kind of fun. It would be great for a purse or a backpack, because you would surely always find it. Also, in an office setting, because no one could get away with "borrowing" it. :)

The Neon Yellow Safari would be good pen to designate as a fountainpen highlighter with a 1.5 or 1.9 italic and a highlighter ink - maybe Noodler's Firefly or Sunrise

I'm not Brandon or Toffer, but I hope you don't mind if I throw in my 2 cents. It definitely does have a greenish tint, though it's yellow, and that does help. It's much better than I expected in person, though still very bright.

Howdy tytoalba! I just held it up to the bride and asked, "What color is this?" "It's yellow," she opined, "like highlighter, fluorescent yellow... Neon yellow. It's neon yellow." Next I held it up with the apple green, lime green, and yellow models. "Is it yellow or green," I ask. "Greenish, but definitely neon yellow."

What a lamb.

Certainly won't be purple, or British racing green, or terra/vanna Hah!

Laura N

Hah, I was going to say the same thing. The neon looks nice next to the apple green but it makes the lime look sickly. Which kind of messed up my pen case's ROYGBIV arrangement. :)
