Lovely little celluloid button filler with a somewhat indistinct history and origin.
In the the early 20th century there was a USA brand "CAW". They made hard rubber safety pens and stylographic pens. After the 1920's the brand seemed vanished from the USA market, but turned up again in UK in the '30's. The UK "CAW" pens were probably made at the Burnham factory.
But CAW also had a branche in The Netherlands where pens were produced and assembled from parts that were manufactured in Germany.
Here is such a pen. As the only brand information I have comes from the CAW brand and logo on the clip, I am not completely sure its origin is authentic.
Brand: probably CAW
Country of origin: UK or NL - not sure
Production year: mid 1930's
Material: Body and cap black and grey pearl celluloid; clip and cap ring are gold colored brass;
Feeder, cap top and blind end cap are ebonite (black hard rubber)
Nib: Imprint: 14K - 585 and the German Degussa logo.
Filling system: Button filler
Measurements: capped: 120 mm; uncapped 104 mm; posted 142 mm. diameter over barrel 10,9 mm; over cap 12.4 mm
Condition: Good. Some brassing on the cap ring. New silicon ink sac. Pen is completely rebuilt, clean, writes smooth with a nib with an F/M semi flex 14K German Degussa laying down a medium wet F to B line. No brand imprint except for the clip so I am not 100% sure about the authenticity of this pen. So I will offer it for a very fair low price.
