You may already know the joy of real written correspondence, especially when written with genuine ink from a nib. But there's also postcards!

If you'd like to swap postcards, do the following:


1. Send a private message (PM) to others in this thread that includes your mailing address, asking them to reply with their address.
2. Post in this thread your interest in swapping postcards and invite others to send a PM to you with their address, and that you will reply with your address.

Note that No. 1 alone is more effective than No. 2 alone. Both is best by far.

So, anyone for the following postcards? I have lots, especially the older vintage size.

Although Fred and I are apparently no longer talking to each other in any mode, I should also point out that his postcards - about 17 of them - still adorn my office wall. And every one is both quirky and highly interesting. If you can exchange with Fred, you really should. :)

It is difficult to get amusing postcards here. I have many comic postcards that I brought here with me from the US. I hadn't used them for years and I had forgotten them. They turned up one day when I was looking for something else and I thought, "Perfect for Fred!" Your idea sounds great.

I get my best vintage and old postcards unsorted in bags and boxes at antiques markets (once cards have been sorted and categorized, forget it). A little bookshop in my town was getting rid of its new old stock postcards and selling cheap. A vendor at a rural flea market/car boot sale next to a church had a pile of ~100-year-old B&W photo cards for pennies each; I bought them all. Today I discovered a man in New Zealand who publishes repro vintage postcards at great prices, though I'm waiting for his reply whether the address side will be fountain pen friendly.* You just never know the source for fun and oddball cards.

I enjoy receiving Fred's cards. But I don't send any. Deciphering an Enigma coded message would be easier than reading my handwriting. Even my wife has trouble reading it at times. Worse, she asks "What does this say?" and I have to stare at it a minute to figure it out.

As a wizard with tools, can you not modify a Pantograph so it can copy your handwriting into cursive or something? :)

Alas, no pens that day. But at least I won't be tempted to violate the stay-at-home order when it comes. Oh, and I just received my supply of vintage US postage stamps, too.

Sometimes antiques market finds are just too tempting. I mean, a box of many hundreds of identical vintage postcards for only $5? It's been two years now, and I am down to about 200-300 of them. There were even gifts of handfuls to fellow card swappers.

I did a search for Camp Nelson and I suspect if I sent one of these cards to Godfrey, Ontario it will be returned. Does Camp Nelson still exist? I am going to send a card there today, with my return address on the card, hoping CanadaPost will do the honors if they cannot deliver it.

I sometimes joke that postcards are delayed because during postoffice coffee breaks, postcards are favorite coasters and it takes a week or a month before anyone notices and returns them into the flow of mail. Proof arrived today in the form of a Postcrosser's postcard from Germany, 25 days for what usually takes a week!

I just picked up a box of 100 National Park (American) postcards at 20 cents each, tucked away on a lonesome shelf of our local old-fashion bookshop (complete with squeaky wooden floors).

Oh joy! I open my mailbox and see one of these. If you are a customer of the USPS, you know these special envelopes. I suppose a half a postcard is better than none.
