On fountainpenboard, there is a funny thread were members show pictures of small selections of their collections. It's called: "mini collections". I really like this thread and wish to start a similar one on FPG because...

I love to collect small selections of matching pens, building kind of a mini collection. Sometimes I first write a list, sometimes I have a picture in mind which I sketch quickly instead of written notes.

In march this year, I started with three pens and this sketch:

https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8708/30221390656_39a9059740_h.jpg

Seven months (and $xxxx.xx) later, the mini collection is complete:

Okay, to warm up I will post a picture of another mini-collection:

https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8508/29167052171_453d955ce8_b.jpg

The Parker "51" Aerometric is one of my all time favourites and I always wanted to have one example of each color.
I really waited a long time for the last color - Plum - of course. I was tempted to buy one several times but at last, believe ot or not, I found one in a thrift shop for $20!

Pen collecting is fun, isn't it?

Okay, I've taken my camera out this morning and broken into my storage chest to get some of my mini-collections out. First, Kaweco Sport Art fountain pens, not quite a complete collection yet. I really love the way the classic octagonal pocket pen becomes a little jewel with the wonderful acrylic that's used.
http://i.imgur.com/swHuaQPl.jpg
In a completely different style, though also German, the Lamy 2000. I have three FPs of different vintages in black macrolon, the regular stainless and the stainless special edition, rollerball, ballpoints makrolon, taxus and blackwood, and a mechanical pencil. There's not much room left in the box...
http://i.imgur.com/LmV2P4Ol.jpg
Another mini-collection I'm very fond of, my Merlins - mainly the Merlin 33, but also Perfect, Elegant, and the little piston-filler (which I seem to remember is Triumph). All found on ebay, through the years. Still waiting for the 'coconut macaroon' one to show up.
http://i.imgur.com/F7z1DMSl.jpg
Off to France, and a collection of Waterman Lady Elsa, Agathe, and Patricia pens. I adore these - the Elsa made in old galalith stock, particularly. They're a 1970s/80s bow to the early Waterman pens, and I think carry off the historic reference very nicely. With them is a Jean-Pierre Lepine mini pen, the Attila (small but powerful) in a chatoyant acrylic.
http://i.imgur.com/QSve0dOl.jpg
And finally - a box of Osmias and Rotrings. Spot the Osmi-brook Frankenpen that started it all! Most of these acquired in the wild in various states of decrepitude, and awaiting repair.
http://i.imgur.com/WzLttcll.jpg
Hope this helps to get the ball rolling, though these little accumulations are nothing compared to a full set of P51 aerometrics. (Oh, I wish, I wish! I just keep finding black and grey!)

Thanks a lot. These are great mini collections - exactly what I had in mind. And beautiful pens as well. I specially like these Osmia in ray pattern. Fantastic!

Here is another one of mines. Waterman's 52V in all possible HR colors.

https://c6.staticflickr.com/6/5661/22788576405_29bd6d2792_o.jpg

This is al long term project and it took me probably 10 years to find them all. I decided to NOT inlcude the 452 1/2V overlay pens because they are shorter than the regular 52V. Instead I have a quite scarce french made 52V with rolled gold overlay and I believe there was a smiliar one in solid silver and most certainly in solid gold as well. The hunt goes on...

The BCHR with the wide engraved cap band.
I didn't needed that one because I already had a plain BHR and another chased on. But the price was good an I like the huge variety in which these came.

You can say that again!
I am amazed at how good some people are with collecting things.
Some think that it's just about money and patience, but no, it takes persistence, and the ability to keep track of things for the long haul.

And luck, of course :)

Greg, that array of Bantams is nothing short of awesome! I want you to know that I have never forgotten your generosity 2 years ago in LA, where you gifted me one while I was trying to source nibs and parts. I've only got four, some in pretty rough shape, but I look fondly on them. Thank you for sharing this great photo (well, all of them)!

https://c3.staticflickr.com/6/5324/30226810642_c60555ba40_o.jpg

The pens on the left are after war time and the ones on the right are pre war time. The two black with broad capband are not identical although not visible on the picture. One is from pre 1949 with steped section and the other is from post 1949 with plain section.

Ouch. Even though I insisted on only adding examples with 18k nibs to my collection (versus the plated nibbed version you can also find,) I never paid even half of that for any of mine. Outrageous pricing.

I have a smattering of clusters, but the only thing that comes close to a mini-collection would be my fascination with Moore pens from (appr) the 1940s, when they had some lovely materials (and nibs that are are top-notch). There are a couple of their Belmont sub-brand included. It's a pretty good-sized pic, so if you open in a new tab/window you can zoom on some of the nice celluloids. (P.S. I need a dedicated photo setup. Still!)

Indeed, those are lovely pens. I have to say, the majority of the pens I showed were gotten for very low amounts. It is only in the last couple of years that more people (hehe) have been hunting for Moores, and it is sad how the prices have gone up for some very doggy pens. My days, except for occasional sumgais, are probably about done on this series.

All information is welcome. My biggest problem is simply not having any area where I can keep something set up. Every time I want to take the most basic of photos I have to drag the stuff out, set it up in some area (like the middle of the living room) and take it down. Not fun, and I take fewer pics because of it. Someday I'll have a clear space... :(

Thanks, Greg, that means a lot coming from you! I've only inked a couple (hardiest models), but I think only one (the stickered) weren't used... quite a bit. The white one just came to me a couple months ago, and it has seen better days. I've not done any restoration, as I don't want to make it 'worse', but the celluloid is pretty discolored. At some point I'll try disassembling it, but I'm leery of doing something like pulling the inner cap, since you can't find these pens very often.

Here is my Ray celluloid mini-collection. It started with the Waterman Ink-Vue, but I really wanted to find other pen manufacturers that used the same celluloid. Kaweco, Montblanc, Radius, Universal, Zemax, Soennecken, Waterman and several other brands are in the drawer, and I am always looking for others. Most are restored while others await attention. (The pen on the left isn't Ray celluloid.)

Sorry about the photo quality. The drawer is above eye level, and I held my iPhone above the drawer and guessed the shot! :)

Fred, that is fascinating. What makes it recognizable as "Ray" celluloid? Is it only the chevron-like pattern or something else I don't see in the picture? I see a lot of celluloid patterns but I don't remember seeing this particular one.

Thanks.

I'll have to get them down and take some proper photos and identify each. Correction about the Zemax. I'd sent that to Italy for repair, and on return by registered mail, it disappeared forever and registration of the parcel was useless. I haven't seen another since.

penwash, ray celluloid has a certain pattern to it that, in my eye, is readily distinguished from other deco chevron patterns. The ray celluloid comes in different colors such as silver, copper, emerald and blue, and even different sizes, but they all have that common pattern. I've yet to research the source(s).

Christof, of course you are to thank for one of these from our vintage pen partnership purchases. By the way, I think I recognize the big red pencil on the right in your mini collection!

And another.

I'm a nib guy, and the old color-coded Waterman nib mini-collection is great to have and use. Here it is in all the available color nibs offered in the No. 7 jet-black series that replaced the ripples. Waterman had dropped the black nib after the ripple as far as I've been able to determine, but I have a black-coded barrel ready to accept the nib if one crosses my path.

Beautiful pens, didn't even know about that model. I always thought the color-coded nibs simply were with the ripples. Funny: insomnia kept me online last night, and I saw a white plugged pen at Maricio Aguilar's site. Not a white nib, of course...

Beautifully made, great nibs, solid click-on caps - and each for around £20, or less. I even managed to find a few of the 2010 Japan-only release; the Iro demonstrators, with solid colour end trims. How do any of us fall down the rabbit hole? :) I read about LUS pens a couple of years ago and was intrigued. Coincidentally, Mrs Catbert then acquired a really nice example, and I’ve been trying ever since to find its equal. I enjoy the combination of sleek mid-century style with something a little more technical.

LUS stands for ‘Legnani Umberto, Saronno’. Signor Legnani and his wife Giuseppina Carnelli started making steel nibs in Saronno in 1928.

The LUS Giubileo 53 fountain pen, the focus of my mini collection, was named for the 25th anniversary of LUS in 1953. The nib can be adjusted from firm (retracted) to semi-flex (extended) by twisting either the whole barrel or a knob at the end of the barrel, depending on the model.

The photo in my previous post showed (from top to bottom) a couple of lower-end Giubileos with steel nibs and three variants of the 53 with gold nibs - the best (the 53A) being Mrs Catbert’s.

I’m working on a longer appreciation of these pens, which I’ll post separately.

I don’t know about rare. Certainly it's not a brand that gets mentioned much. My accumulation is mostly user-grade stuff that comes up occasionally. Mrs Catbert’s 53A might be more uncommon.

You better be prepared to build another room on your house for such a collection when you try to cover all the variations within each color. Those who attempt a "complete" collection of those will be well beyond the realm of "mini-".

You better be prepared to build another room on your house for such a collection when you try to cover all the variations within each color. Those who attempt a "complete" collection of those will be well beyond the realm of "mini-".

Fred

Indeed. A brief survey of even Tony Fischier's parkercollector.com would put to rest any misconceptions about the (small) size of a Vac gathering...

I'm pretty good about adhering to my focus on vintage celluloid pens with chrome trim, so you might say that about 7/8 of my collection is a mini-collection of this theme over different brands. Here's a shot of just my 3rd tier Sheaffer's (mostly Juniors and Sheaffer sub-brands):

http://i.imgur.com/IZpENZf.jpg

Still searching for a Junior in silver pearl striated, a truncated junior in black + black & blue, and a WASP Lizard Skin pen. Picked up a nice grey Addipoint in a snakeskin-like pattern just this week, and know there are several others with white trim. Am I leaving out any other models/colors?

popcod
November 4th, 2016, 01:26 PM
The rest of my Sheaffer's with chrome trim. A couple Triumphs but mostly Balances with some interesting, reverse-trim Canadian models on the left. The cap on the grey marble OS pen is currently with Zorn for re-plating, but the plating on all the others is original.

http://i.imgur.com/yL7Hnbs.jpg

And a boxed OS Balance set in grey marble. The plating is simply immaculate on these, and the matching chrome accents on the box are a nice touch:

Good to see you here. Specially because I see you as the godfather of this thread.
It would be great to see some of your fantastic mini collections. But please keep in mind that great doesen't mean valuable or expensive in any case. Also from cheap pens can be built cool mini collections. For example, this Safari selection is a personal favourite of mine:
https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7423/16399210551_786d6e18bd_h.jpg
I love them as much as I love my Pelikan 100's!

I am not nearly so envious of the Lamy Safari collection as I am of the tray!

My mini collections of 'cheap' pens include Waterman Forum - a plastic pen that I seem to remember cost around £9 when I was buying them new in the 1980s. I have thirty and haven't even scratched the surface of the different colours. As for my Sheaffer No-Nonsense... I've decided that will have to be just an accumulation, rather than a true mini-collection, as I don't think anyone knows how many variations there are; though I do hope, one day, I'll be able to put together all the 'Old Timer' varieties.

I got the cheap Watermans out of their box this afternoon;
http://i.imgur.com/TxNTfvil.jpg
They are some of them rather 'user-grade-, and one is a ballpoint, but don't they make a nice show? All from flea markets except the fluted metal one, which was a Christmas gift from my partner's sister-in-law, and the blue marbled pen on the left which I have owned since I bought it new in the 1980s.

I'm afraid my Lamy collections are all put away in a big chest right now owing to the advent of new, and very mischievous, kittens.

My Chinese collection, haha. Mostly Jinhaos, two Baoers (there's another still in the mail somewhere), and a Yiren. All of them write pretty well, though the 507 (Eight Horses) seemed either incredibly fine, or it's slightly off. Only 3 of them have been inked so far, the others (including the Baoer) were only dip-tested. I'll likely try experimenting with some of the nibs once I've got my stuff to do so. :)

Ohh is yours possibly a 650? Gold color clip/bands? I do believe that one is fatter than the 8812/8802 (no idea which number it's meant to be, it and the other color styles in the same model have both numbers, don't know what's right!). If you just search "jinhao seashell" you'll turn them up, though, lol.

Just recently "completed" my mini-collection of 30s Parkers with chrome trim. My goal was to own an example of all the patterns catalogued with minimal discoloration. There's a couple of off-catalogue pens here and others that aren't represented. I'm missing some silver pearl Vacs as well (Speedline, Maxima, etc.). But I think I've finally come to a point at which I'll no longer be hunting Parkers actively :)

Fred,
The graphic was a stick on 'decal'. I don't remember where I got the case nor do I remember how much I paid for it. A few weeks ago I saw 'an original' case for sale. The price wasn't bad but the shipping was expensive considering its bulk.

Something modern - being a fan of clipless Franklin-Christophs there are a few here of some different models and colours that I like in particular. I am happy with this group and can't imagine enlarging it much more except maybe to add a Panther 40 or maybe another rarer colour finish from the usual current choices. Always on the look out!

Yes! Fourth from the left is a Pocket 66 limited edition in pearlescent purple swirl - one of my favourites!

F-C often choose elegant refined colours for their pens but now there are moves to more bright, even neon colours such as the recent model 45 in lemon/lime and the model 31 with red or yellow sections. Unfortunately I can't attend pen shows as there they often offer an interesting range of trial colours which never make it to their website. When other members post show photos it is always very interesting and frustrating at the same time!

I started collecting Ford, let's say for three reasons; they are strong, even the small ones holds a lot of ink and they have a delicate and complex filling system that amazes me...

Here is one of the most complete pages i have read about Ford, and also written by one of the persons who knows more about the brand: http://www.penpractice.com/page10.html
If you go to a pen show –if you have not you should, is great– look for one Ford and take a look, you will not regret it... I know lately they are a little more expensive than they use to be when I started my collection, but that is another matter.

I love to collect small selections of matching pens, building kind of a mini collection. Sometimes I first write a list, sometimes I have a picture in mind which I sketch quickly instead of written notes.

More than one year and 142 postings further I'd like to make a small contribution to this very nice and interesting thread. (Thank you Christof for starting it).

It's about my Merlin pens, more in particular the - in circles of collectors well known - Merlin 33.
I am collecting these nice little pens for quite some time now and I have them in 19 different colors. As it seems there are 59 different colors/patterns existing so there is still something left to hunt for. Apart from the 33’s, I own some more Merlin models, among them some also popular ‘Merlina’ pens that are even smaller that the Merin 33 that is only 120mm (capped), 107mm uncapped and 145mm posted.
About the other Merlin models I’ll write in a new post, later.

About 10 years ago it was not very difficult to find Merlins here in The Netherlands, as Merlins were a well-known and popular Dutch brand. (Parts made in Germany, assembled in Amsterdam for the Dutch market). Through the years the Merlins, especially the 33's, were more and more difficult to find, as they became quite popular as collectors’ items in the rest of the world. The reason why these little Merlin pens became so popular in the last 2 decades is mainly due to Mr. Andreas Lambrou (the well known author of the famous book "Fountain Pens OF The World). Already in Februari 2006 there was an article on the Fountain Pen Network site about how Lambrou and his friends acquired a large lot of 33's and Merlina's and how they brought them into the world.
The post is still there: http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/7995-merlin-33/

Apart from these 'Lambrou Merlins' one can still find some of these lovely little pens in the wild and as I am Dutch and live in the Netherlands, which is more or less the native country for this brand, Holland is the place to find them!

Just a few weeks ago I found a nice 33 on the Dutch "Marktplaats" (marketplace) for a very friendly price. I bought it because it was one of the colour varieties I did not own already. A beautiful orange/bronze marbled piece. It came to me very used and very dirty, but surprisingly undamaged, so a restoration to an acceptable condition was rather easy.

Here it is:

36733 36734

I like Merlins for several reasons:
First:
They are Dutch (ok, almost) the main focus of my FP collection is Dutch manufactured pens or pens especially made for the Dutch market.
Second:
There are a lot of different Merlins, If you count all the colour varieties plus the many different model varieties (there is a lot more that only 33’s and Merlina’s) we talk about hundreds of pens.
At the moment my collection contains a modest amount of 68 different pens, including 3 mech. pencils that are part of a set, so there is still a long way to go to a complete collection.
Third:
I'ts celluloid, and I just love celluloid pens. Next to (colored) ebonite and caseine, for me celluloid is the best and most beautiful material ever used to make pens.
Fourth:
The quality of the pens. They are small, but sturdy, have a simple construction, most of them have the button filler system that is very reliable and easy to maintain or restore. The small nibs are 14K gold, mostly with their own Merlin signature imprint. Most of them are semi flex, what I like much more than rigid nibs. The nibs in the Merlins were mostly made by Degussa, some (younger ones) by Bock. Both brands are famous for their quality. Sometimes one finds a Degussa or Bock signed nib in a Merlin, which I find to be authentic or at least an acceptable replacement.

About the writing aspects and further technical details of the ‘33’ I cannot tell you not so much more than what Matt on his blog on Penhabit already wrote in 2015 in his excellent review, so for that info, please look here: http://penhabit.com/2015/04/17/pen-review-merlin-33/# (http://penhabit.com/2015/04/17/pen-review-merlin-33/)

Now, finally, some more pictures, as this tread is supposed to show photographs of mini collections.
First my mini collection of all my 19 pieces of 33's, together with some original boxes I was so lucky to find.
Then some some detail pictures to show the amazing colors.
The Bronze '33' I showed above is the 4th from the left in the row.

Enjoy! Cheers to you all, Happy New Year!

A mini collection of P45s. Nothing swanky, rare or valuable, but they're a lot of fun.

I own some of these in different variations. Excellent writers, affordable, and a lot of fun indeed with all the colors to find. Would like to acquire one or more Harlequin P45's though. Very difficult to find.

36798

The first 2 pens from the left are actually Eversharps. They were introduced just before Parker took over the Eversharp firm. It is said that the original design by Eversharp was further developed by Parker to become the P45, their first cartridge loaded pen and, next to the famous '51' also one of their most succesfull.
(I am not dead sure about these 'facts', so if there is anyone who knows more details about this Eversharp to Parker transition, please chime in!)

The 3rd Pen from the left is a Ballpoint, forming a set with the Fountainpen P45 on position #4.

This tread about mini collections is great fun when one wants to express what pleasure it is to collect fountain pens. Anyway, for me it is. After more than 20 years of collecting pens it is nice to form sub collections within the total of all those pens that distinguish itself by brand, material, colour, (filling) system, country of origin, time of production, quality, etc. One distinction is rarely made when one would like to build a thematic group and that is size.
So that is exactly what I want to do here.
During the years I built a mini collection of what I call my ‘miniature pens’. The criterion of considering a pen as a miniature is arbitrary, but I like to see a pen as a miniature when it is smaller than what one would normally call a ‘Lady’s’ size so let’s say any pen significantly smaller that e.g. a Merlin Merlina, a Parker 17 Lady or a Waterman Lady Patricia.
In this topic about ‘Mini Collections’ I’d like to show this collection of my ‘Miniature Fountain pens’.

Enjoy.

I don't know Byron as a brand.

You are right AMK, I should have known that fact myself. I did some searching here on FPG and in my personal memory (= my head... :) ) and found this:
https://fpgeeks.com/forum/showthread.php/6936-Guider-Mini-smallest-hand-turned-ebonite-pen-in-production (http://fpgeeks.com/forum/showthread.php/6936-Guider-Mini-smallest-hand-turned-ebonite-pen-in-production)
Then I remembered: My piece was actually a gift from Mesu, who posted the tread above.
It was made in 2014, not 2016, so I shall edit that.
Actually my Little Guider was a gift to me from Mesu from India. It came to me together with the Onix and the other black pen in the picture, the double sided stick. Mesu posted the item above. Sadly, I lost contact with Mesu, I did not hear or read from her for quite some time now.

About the 'Byron' brand: it is probably one of those hundreds of brands to be found that were used for small firms such as stationary shops that wanted to have their own brand name. Most of those pens, or the parts they were assembled from, came from pen manufacturers in Germany. In this case it could even come from one of the few real pen manufacturers we had in The Netherlands that really designed and produced their own products: Union. The Union Fountain Pen Factory existed from the end of the 1920's until the end of the 1960's and was established in The Hague. They made a lot of beautiful mainly celluloid pens of high quality. The brown horizontally striped celluloid stock used for the Byron pen set is also used by Union in several models, so the Byron could very wel have been made by Union.

Now back to the Guider pens.
One mini collection leads to another: here are some pictures from the wonderful Indian Guider pens I own. All eyedroppers, all ebonite, except for #5 in the pictures which is celluloid.

37113

37114

37115

From left to right:

# 1 is the same mini pen I showed earlier.

# 2 is the Onix you mentioned. Attn: this is the version 1, with the flush cap & barrel, the vs.2 has a visible separation between cap and barrel. I liked the 'old' version a lot more, so Mesu had one made for me a Guider's. It is an exeptionally large, oversized pen, the length is 155mm, capped, 195mm posted and 142mm without cap.

#3 is also a Guider, it is a more or less experimental pen, only a few were made in this design. We called it 'The Magicians Stick'. I wanted a piece with white ends on both sides and a transparent window in the middle, buit Guider did not want to make that for me...

# 4 is much older, I bought it many years ago in a large lot of old pens with 'parts & pieces', all vintage Indian pens. I restored some of them and this is one of this lot. I guess it could be from the 1960' or 1970's, but it could also be much older. One never knows with these hard rubber / ebonite hand made Indian pens. It was my first green ebonite pen.

# 5 looks very European, but it is a (I guess) very old (1950's?) eyedropper made of beautiful red marbled celluloid.

This was it for now. Curious what the next Mini Collection will be.... :)

Maybe I will post something more about my collection of Vintage Indian fountain pens.... :typing:

That's a nice mini-collection - it encapsulates all the variety of British Parkers in colour and material. (Well, all the variety that doesn't involve marbled celluloid, anyway.) The only thing I'd be tempted to add is one of Parker's gold filled pens - maybe a 61 or 65.

The "Big Red" was a ballpoint and, I think, rollerball, popular in the 1970s. Enterprising folks have found various fountain pen sections to fit it. Off the top of my head I want to say a Cross Solo and the Pilot MR/Metropolitan among them. I believe you can also do something a little more complicated using a 45. Google will no doubt find the details.

usk15 completely defeated me, because nothing I could do would make either a Slimfold or a Duofold Lady look the right length in comparison to a Duofold Junior or Victory MkV. Well, no, because I'd completely forgotten the narrow band on the Senior, which is what I should have been comparing them to.

Indeed, the Big Red is a RB/BP transformed in a FP with Cross Solo section. But...still half English Parker....

The Big Red ball/rollerball pens were given out by companies as advertising with their logos on them. Much nicer than the crap we get now. They used standard Parker cartridges in them so they lasted and hopefully, not a throwawy.

Wow, those are lovely. It's interesting how the Aurora and its companion stand out as really rich colour compared to the relative reticence of most of the others.

I see quite a lot of Valentines in the candystripe pattern - is that how Parker got it into the bloodstream, with their acquisition of Valentine?

popcod

I'm largely limited to shades of gray, sadly, owing to my focus on pens with white trim. Most of the more colorful webbed patterns were only available with gold trim. There are some nice subtleties, however, like the Onoto that appears grey webbed but is actually blue on closer scrutiny.

I can't pretend to be a Parker expert, but that certainly sounds like a plausible theory to me concerning the candystripe plastics.

A couple more Lifetime Balances and a handful of long slender models (later called "Craftsman"), including one cherry red Loaner sans loaner imprint

Canadian Balances (5-30 and 3-25). Were these made in the US, many would be considered examples of "reverse trim." But this trim was actually standard in Canada.

Just to change the direction of this thread a bit, here's a couple of photos of my silver pens

Montblanc 1266
Parker 75
Cross
Yard-o-led Viceroy Barleycorn
Visconti Watermark
Otto Hutt Model 07
Jack Row Mirage

It is noticeable how pens have grown over the years. In my youth I used to think that the Parker 75 was a fairly substantial pen.

Interestingly, the Cross is marked on the cap - CROSS .925 Silver Made in Ireland ATC LTD I didn't remember that Cross had a manufacturing facility in Ireland. Is it still there? Does anybody know what model it is? I only remember it a a Cross fountain pen, before they had different models.

That's a nice silver collection and in beautiful shape. How do you look after the pens - silver polish, lacquer? What's the secret? I have only one silver pen, a silver Waterman CF ballpoint, and it's horribly tarnished.

Thank you.

Is your CF a moire? I love that pattern, I have a gold plated CF moire fountain pen. Lovely to look at, and a good writer. Unfashionably small & slim nowadays though.

46207

I use a silver polishing cloth. Goddards make them, or there are plenty of others. They take a bit of rubbing if they have not been polished for a while. I'm not sure if a polishing cloth will remove serious tarnish, you may have to use a silver polish. I remember my mother using an old toothbrush to get into all the nooks and crannies.

Of course the secret is to use them all avery day, then they never tarnish.

The Jack Row pen is ruthenium plated, which never needs polishing.

"The secret is to use then all every day" - I'll admit my guilt there! I will look out for a Goddards cloth and give the pen a rub, hoping (a) to get it shiny and (b) to see if there's a CF genie who will pop out and grant all my wishes.

Yes, I have the moire. Like you, I love that finish.

I love hard rubber Conklin crescent-fillers because of their 115+ years-old look of obsolescence.

A little "20" is long gone. A "4NL" shattered when it hit the slate floor (I have the parts, but barrels and caps are getting hard to come by). A big "75" went to an eager fellow FPGeek in Maryland. Here's what's left, all of which have EF or F flex nibs. I keep them all because each nib exhibits a subtle variation in character, typical of nibs made that era. I really must let some into rotation again.

Stunning, Fred. I share your love of these but have also let a 75 go to someone who focused more intently on them. I recently picked up a MHR 3NL identical to yours after searching a long time for one in my price range. Just waiting for a #3 nib to complete it without exceeding that range.
