In my experience, there is a geekdom for everything. I'm pleasantly surprised at the size and activity of that for fountain pens!
I was bitten by the bug just a few weeks ago, when I decided that forty years of illegible handwriting was long enough; it was time to develop some penmanship. But not with the ugly old cursive I learned in school.
So I hunted around for other forms, fell in love with Chancery italic, and discovered I needed the proper sort of nib to write it.
Now I have a couple of good, inexpensive pens, learned a bit of nib work to make one of them behave, and am already writing sentences that can be read by other people. :-)
