Hi Everyone!

There will be a 2013 Edison Limited Edition Group Buy. If you missed the Pearl Group buy last year, we only do these direct once a year, so if you have thought about a Signature Line pen, but was waiting for a special deal or the right time, this might be it. The exact price is yet to be determined, but a pen that retails for $250 will be offered around $175-195.

We'll be offering a Morgan. All details are here....

http://edisonpen.com/index.cfm/2013/3/13/2013-Morgan-Group-Buy

Let me know if there are any questions!

So this is an FPGeeks edition or is this the FPN version?

bgray
March 14th, 2013, 10:21 AM
It's neither. It's just an direct Edison group buy, but the FPN is allowing me to handle logistics in a thread over there.

I'm in like dinner! Can't wait!! Both my choices for materials are trending so the ebonite vs acrylic choice might be tough.

Brian, do you have a rough estimate of shipping dates after the 07April buying close off?

Brian, do you have a rough estimate of shipping dates after the 07April buying close off?

It really depends on how many pens are bought. At this point, I can only say from 3 weeks to 3 months. I realize that this is not exactly the best answer, but you'll need to bear with us until we get a number of pens purchased.

Last year, we had almost 120 pens purchased, and it took us around 6 weeks if I remember correctly. 3 months is probably a very very conservative figure, but I prefer to under-promise and over-deliver.

I can say this....I'd love to have these all done prior to the Chicago Pen Show in early May.

Also - we will have a gallery set up with photos, possibly videos documenting the whole process. So if you are following these updates, the exact shipping date will not be a surprise.

Thanks Brian.
Seeing there is nearly two weeks to purchase it is a bit early for estimates.

Just a quick reminder - the buying period ends Sunday night.

April 8th, 2013, 06:31 PM
It has started.

right now, it looks like we are at 88-90 pens. Around 39 Acrylic and 51 Ebonite. But like I said, I'll get a final number tomorrow.

Here come some weeks of dreaming :lazy2: and watching the manufacturing progress thread.

http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php?/topic/243864-2013-edison-morgan-le-manufacturing-progress-thread/

The Neon Acrylic is underway already.:bounce:
And the Ebonite is coming.

----------------------------------------------
More updates on the manufacturing thread - that Neon acrylic looks even better than the original photo and there is so much variation between pens but they all look fantastic.

Any oblique nibs ?

The only way to do an oblique nib would be to customize after the sale. Thanks!

Just a heads up - there are a couple of Acrylic pens that made and the owners cancelled. I will announce this officially when I get a chance, but if you are looking for an Acrylic version, email me.

I got my Morgan LEE today.

The only slight sad thing is that I've decided for my fingers, the Morgan/Pearl shaped section is not ideal for me. It's very usable, but it's not just the material on my ebonite Herald Grande that makes it a pleasure -- I prefer the straight section. Until today, I only had the Pearl from last year in acrylic and the Herald Grande to compare.

That said, the Morgan is a beautiful pen. The "bonus chunk" of material is really very interesting because it really gives a sense of how much work Brian did to make a pen from the rod of ebonite. I love the flat top. The weight is perfect posted or unposted. The material is gorgeous.

The lessons I have learned is if I commission an Edison I want a straight section and these pens are so fantastic I'll have to keep coming up with justifications to buy them as long as Brian offers them. Thanks very much!

JimmyJames congratulations on your Morgan LEE.
I was wondering about the feel of the section as I'm really happy with the feel of the grip section of the Edison Nouveau and they appear rather different.
Tracking shows my LEA was sent to CHICAGO airport so it will hopefully be on a van ride out from Sydney airport in the very near future.

I just got my LEE in the mail as well. The material is absolutely gorgeous!

For some reason, despite that darn near every other pen I have has a straight (TWSBI) or lipped (Bexley) section, I find that I really like the pinched section on this and the Pearl LEE from last year.

The pen is more slight than I thought it would be, but is seriously comfortable, even un-posted. It fits quite nicely in my hand, despite my long fingers.

I am now jonesing for a grail pen: A custom Edison, likely a #76, though maybe I need to rethink and try something with a straight section, you know, for science...

Looking at photos online, the sections don't seem all that different. It seems that the pinch might be a bit closer to the nib on the Encore than it is on the Nouveau. The section on the Nouveau looks quite similar to the one on the Morgan.

To my eye, the Nouveau Premiere has a much more elongated section.

April 29th, 2013, 09:29 PM
Hmmm... I'd be interested to hear from Brian on this one, as the Morgan and Premiere have the same uncapped body length (5").

Oh, Brian, if you're reading this, thanks for the chunk!!!

bgray
April 30th, 2013, 06:18 AM
The Premiere section is primarily more narrow. See the attached pic (Morgan on top, Premiere on bottom).

The Premiere section is .358" at the narrowest, and the Morgan is .389" Now this may not sound like much, but trust me, your fingers definitely will feel this.

Thanks!

Awesome, thanks for the comparison Brian! I didn't realize the Premiere was that thin!

Got my LEE #06 yesterday, finally inked it up this morning (Noodler's Walnut) and it's writing great! It's out now, resting in a Midori Traveler's notebook next to me on my lab table. It will be getting a workout today!

How did you decide the numbering this time around?

So that explains 47 of 48. I had assumed that meant only one person got a 1.5i and the italics were last. I did order on the last day (or something like that).

Day two with the pen suggests to me that I just had to figure out the grip a bit -- the pen was a pure pleasure to use. I inked it up with the relatively dry Noodler's Burma Road Brown and find it to be a nice match. I think next up will be Noodler's Rome Burning.

Where is that delivery van ?

Yesterday I made the stupid stupid mistake of looking at Brian's Material Gallery. The range is absolutely mindboggling. There is also a Swirl Elderberry/Neon (centre of the bottom row) which looks like the Neon with a touch of purple in the black.

You're exactly right. It's the same composition as Neon, the same swirl colors as neon, but it has a deep purple coming through with the base color. We haven't used this yet, but we're looking forward to it!

With such a large range of materials I suppose there are quite a few that haven't been used yet.

Some of those mesh ones like Cappuccino, Indigo & Reptile are fascinating too.
I feel like ordering a pen ....maybe when Mrs Bogon is on away overseas this year.

Hi Ravenlunatic mine was delivered today - LEA#31 the one after your one. Just flushed with water and inked up with Noodler's Red-Black and the 1.1 Stub is fantastic so far. A very different experience from the Lamy 1.1 italic nib. The pearlescence on the black parts of the barrel is wonderful. Really like feel of the pen. Love the disc chunk of raw acrylic in the snap-lock baggie - thanks again Brian.

Reprieve, great photos, the briar swirl ebonite Morgan looks exceptionally glossy, very nice indeed.
The red/black ebonite without the clip looks slightly different and the top of the cap just a little bit more rounded & rather pretty too.

Thanks, Bogon! The clipless red/black ebonite Morgan is just a smidgeon shorter and the ends are slightly rounder. I love that pen--the ebonite has such a pretty swirly pattern. It's my favorite Edison (though these two new ones ain't bad :D).

Thanks, earthdawn! The clipless red/black ebonite Morgan has an extra-fine nib; the Premiere has a fine nib; the neon acrylic Morgan has a medium nib; and the briar swirl ebonite Morgan has one of the new 1.5mm stub nibs. All of them are steel. I have a few other Edisons with 18k gold broad nibs (which are wonderful) but the steel nibs really are just as nice.
