View Full Version : Question about the finish on a cap

I bought a great user pen for $7. It is a Fineline lever fill pen with a 341 nib. I am very pleased with it. I read in a post on the fountain pen network that the early models had a all metal cap and a flange on the section. Mine has both of these. My question is which part, if any, was the original finish? I think it might be the shiny part shown in the picture. If so, then do you believe the rest of the cap could look this way if polished, or does it look that way because it is all that is left of the original plating? Thanks in advance.

Sorry, forgot to add the picture to my post above.

I think it looks like the original plating has worn off on top of the cap.

(Oh, and here's a tip: you could easily have added your picture to your first post, by Selecting 'Edit post' on the bottom right of the original post, and then clicking 'Go Advanced' so that you could get the full edit facilities.)
