I have:
Pilot Prera Demonstrator - F
Pilot Prera Slate Gray - M, B
Pilot Prera Lime Green - M
Pilot Prera White - M
TWSBI Diamond 580 - F
TWSBI Diamond Mini - M, 1.1

I enjoy the fine line of Japanese pens.

Yes it's a short (?) list but I am somewhat new.

I have tons of Asian pens. Two of my favourites are a double broad Pilot Custom 742 which is super broad like a wet crayon and a Sailor H-MF ( hard medium/fine) large 1911. Super smooth.

Pilot elabo, pilot Falcon. A pilot capless a Vanishing point, two 540, a vac 700, a mini and a 530.

The elabo is my all time favourite

The only asian pen I've owned has been a TWSBI Mini. It was O.K, but it wasn't better than any of the pens in my collection, so I had no use for it. I plan to get the Diamond 850 with a flex nib if that happens. The Pilot custom 823 is a really nice pen it seems, so I might want to get one of those at some point. I've never held a Nakaya, so I can't say if I want one or not.

I have two vanishing points, and a Falcon. Peer pressure drove me to order the TWSBI 580, my first, which arrives later this week. Without getting up to look through the box, I think that is it. The vanishing points are two of the most reliable, good pens in my entire collection.

Did you need to tune your VP nibs for better flow? I've been trying the VP again for the past couple of weeks, and it's a bit dry. And I'm kind of nervous about doing anything to the nib except flossing. I really like the Pilot brand, I must say.

(I have a pair of Falcons, the VP, a Bookworm, 2x Twsbi 540. Also the Star Trek Hero pen in case I get a call from the Enterprise. )

I am not sophisticated enough for tuning. Just not that smart, and thankfully, so far they perform as expected with a good flush between inkings. I would love a hands on class to learn some things.

Thanks, Tracy Lee. I don't have the skills or training either. I tried to find out a few things, just in case the zombie apocalypse happens and I'd have to fix my pens myself. So I know a very little bit, just enough to be dangerous.

I've owned many over the years. Currently I own two Pilot 823's (amber and smoke). IMHO they are (pound for pound) some the best fp's money can buy. That's why I own two. :)

How ABOUT Hero? Probably the greatest number of pens in my collection are from that brand. Love'em; always keep one or more 616s loaded.

I also have Sailors, lower-end Pilots like the Plumix, Prera and 78G, xfountainpen rebranded Jinhaos, Kaigelus, Huashilais, a few low-end Japanese fountain pens some kind soul gave me, and one interesting Tombow Zoom Egg.

Yes, quite varied indeed. It is not without purpose. Since I review a lot of pens, I want to have a wide perspective to draw from when making comparisons and writing reviews. My personal preference is for stubs and I tend to favor the .9 mm - 1.1 mm varieties.

I have two more new colors on the way. Although those two might be the last for a while. Nakaya changed their policy on custom colors. There is now a six pen minimum for a custom color. Fortunately, nibs.com came to the rescue. They ordered some Naka-ais in the colors I ordered to make the minimum. It is an amazing gesture. These will be numbered (kanji) prototypes.

I don't have a favorite among any of my pens. I own hundreds of pens but the only pens I use on a regular basis are six of the Nakayas, based on the nib size. Occasionally I'll supplement that with a select group of vintage pens. Otherwise most of my pens are not used. Most are in useable condition but many of my pens are sufficiently rare and old that I don't put further wear and tear on them. When I buy pens that are not Nakayas, I rarely care about the nib as long as it is the correct nib for that pen. I collect vintage Japanese and Italian pens and rare and obscure American pens. From a daily use standpoint, the Nakayas are better suited to the way I like to write (i.e. super extra fine). For calligraphy, I prefer to use dip pens as they are the better tool for that job.

One is sakura (i.e. cheery blossom). The other is hiwa-moegi (siskin-young-long green onion).

The siskin young long green onion sounds like a fantastic design idea for a pen.
I like the notion of a rounded/bulbous white end merging into a green colour, like a spring onion.
Of course, I realise that it may just be a colour scheme - which still sounds nice.
That is a fantastic collection, AltecGreen. Thanks for showing.

I only have one Asian pen: The Pilot MYU701. When I first saw the one piece nib and section construction, it stopped me in my tracks.
I decided that I had to get one. Took some finding, but it came eventually and did not disappoint. It's a stunning design!

Thanks.

Many have come and gone, Sailor, Nakaya, TWSBI, Hero, Platinum.

As of this writing my Japanese pens are:

Pilot MYU 701
Namiki Sterling Turtle
Pilot Heritage 92 in transparent blue

Then there's a
Platinum #3776 nib I installed in my "Newton Slug."

There's two Danitrio short octagons which I include here for their
Japanese urushi craft. The nibs are German, but I had one of them
modified to .2mm by Mike Masuyama.

I love Japanese FINE nibs! I also had two Edison nibs ground by Mike
to Japanese F/EF width.

Since I'm re-organising my collection, I noticed quite a few Asian pens. I now know that I own:

Sailor 1911 demonstrator with music nib
Pilot Crystals in smoke, demonstrator, teal and pink
6 Pilot 78G in various colours and nibs
TWSBI 540 with a 580 nib
Nemosine Singularity demonstrator with the stub nib
a so far unidentified Pilot with Korean manufacture
Pilot Tank in red with M nib
Hero 100
Hero 1000
Platinum demonstrator with F nib

Some very good pens come out of Asia and I've been quite happy with almost every one I've owned.

Apart from the pens I mentioned earlier, I am happy to say that a friend travelling abroad has helped me acquire a Pilot Custom 823 in translucent black. There is a translucent brown version, but it did not appeal to me as much. I am getting it in a couple of weeks, so I'm quite excited :)

Pics! I love the filling mechanism and nib options, and I like the amber well enough but for the price I have to love it. Didn't know there was a black demo. How is it writing?

Here it is, I need to take other photos but that's what I have at the moment.

I received the Pilot Custom 823 on May 25. Would you believe it was just under USD200 (in Hong Kong, brand new)? It arrived in a presentation box with a 70ml bottle of Pilot Black ink. First impression: It's beautiful. The transparent black barrel is thick-walled, and the plunger mechanism is very well-engineered. It's a joy to see the ink fill 2/3 of the pen in a single plunge. That said, the pen has some weight to it, especially when filled, but it's well-balanced unposted. I got a Japanese M, which is about a size 6 nib, monochrome 14k gold with a swirly design on it. Unfortunately, the Pilot Black ink feathered, so I replaced it with Montblanc Toffee Brown. Cleaning up the pen was easier than I expected. Of course a drop or two of water is bound to remain in the barrel, but I've filled the 823 with new ink and it wrote superbly. It writes like a Pelikan gold F nib. I'm quite used to opening the shut-off valve before writing (well-trained by the TWSBI Vac 700).

I could fill it full, using dizzypen's 2-plunge process on video here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SoekRCh_DSM), but I'm generally happy with a single plunge's worth. This was one of my grail pens, and I am very happy with it. Worth getting!

Most recently received a Jinhao with a fude nib and a couple Dilli demonstrators.

Looking forward to experimenting with the Jinhao. The fude should be interesting to write and draw with. I ordered the Dillis with flexible nibs and they're going to require some adjustment and tuning before they're usable (they arrived with tines misaligned), but part of why I got 'em was to experiment with nib modding and tuning, so it's not a problem.

It might be intended to be in the style of another pen company (or hybridizing various companies' signature details) without replicating any specific model. Took a quick look around and hadn't seen any reviews that mention it being an exact copy of something else. It's been around for long enough that somebody should have remarked on it by now.

I've noticed a few products like that on AliExpress -- in which the thing is kinda-sorta but not really a counterfeit version of a more famous or exotic thing -- although some sellers will go the extra mile and will slap the Mont Blanc splat on the caps of their black not-really-counterfeit pens anyway and mark it up by ten bucks.

Kind of sad to see that the x750 was only around $4 shipped a few years ago... it's closer to $8 now.

I have:
Pilot Metropolitan, black with dots, and a Plumix nib and a Con-20. This is my most often used pen, currently inked up with Private Reserve Ebony Blue
Pilot Plumix, bright blue, with a Metropolitan nib and a Con-50. This pen is uncomfortable in my hand and seldom used unless I know I'm only going to be writing for a moment. Currently it has Pelikan 4001 Black in it.
FPR Dilli, green with a stub nib, my second most used pen, currently full of Diamine Twilight.
Pilot Parallel with a 2.4mm size nib. Currently filled with Diamine Oxblood. Pretty much all of my calligraphy is now done with this pen.
Serwex 101, this is the pen that got me looking through asian pens tonight. It's inked up with Pelikan 4001 black, and I've had so much trouble getting it to write. I've cleaned and repositioned the nib and feed, I've flossed the nib with brass sheets, I've struggled with it a ton. I just now got it writing fairly stably, when I had the idea first to dip the nib in a bit of water with the pen still inked up, just as a last ditch "this shouldn't work since I've cleaned the nib so well but..." trial. It wrote! Then it stopped again. Hmmm. LIGHT BULB. I added about 11 drops of water to the already rather full ink resevoir of this eye dropper pen. BAM, now it writes! It has a very very fine line, I'm not sure if it's an asian fine or extra fine or what, but it's definitely my finest writing pen.

Yep. I find the Pelikan 4001 Black to be rather dry as well. In fact, it's the 'drying agent' that I add sparingly to inks that're too prone to bleed through or feathering. such as J Herbin Terre de feu. The fact that 4001 Black is actually not very black is a bonus here -- it still allows the other ink's colour to show through.

N.B. I only mix a very small sample of inks, never a full bottle.

Got my Hero 715 last night from Speerbob on eBay. What a smoothie! Fine nib, lightweight, and slim. Quite delightful to write with--it seems to put down a much lighter shade of black than my Phileas fine nib using the same ink. When I tried it with Diamine Red Dragon, the page looked like a cat fight! Really glad I tried an Asian pen after the advice I got here.

AndyT

Seems to me that Chinese pens have really come on recently. Not so long ago they could be pretty much be relied upon to have tines sprung together and to write way too dry as supplied, but that appears to be the exception rather than the rule lately - the semi-hooded designs are often particularly good. It's almost as if someone has been watching SBRE Brown's videos and started engineering the flow and feel to suit his taste.

Anyway, to answer the question I have a few low tier Pilots and Platinums, and a couple of dozen assorted Chinese pens by companies like Hero, Jinhao, Baoer and Luoshi. The latter were mostly bought with a view to reshaping the nibs, but when a pen writes nicely out of the box I'm reluctant to mess about with it. Now that the flow issues have been resolved I'm even more convinced that the Baoer 388 is the ultimate entry level bargain, with the Hero 616 running it a close second.

Since my last post (http://fpgeeks.com/forum/showthread.php/1933-What-Asian-Pens-Do-You-Own?p=49012&viewfull=1#post49012)on this thread, I've acquired a Sailor Pro Gear with a 21K Medium nib. This is a keeper and restored my faith in the brand.

I had a Sailor 1911 Profit Standard with a 14K Fine nib before, which was dry and borderline scratchy. The plastic felt cheaper and much lighter. IMHO, the Pro Gear is a superior pen in almost every aspect (the one exception being both pens use the same cartridge/converter).

I should also mention that the 21K fine nib felt considerably harder/firmer than the 21K medium nib, which is a total joy to write with. It also produces a line close to European medium, whereas the fine nib produces more of an EF line.

My only Asian pen is a Hero 704, which is a great pen for the price.

If we're just talking fountain pens, it's 2 Pilot Preras, 2 Pilot 78Gs, 2 Pilot Metropolitans, 2 TWSBI 540s, 1 TWSBI Mini, 2 or 3 Jinhaos, a Baoer that doesn't work, at least 4 Heroes (I like their original designs over their knockoffs), some other Chinese pen that doesn't work, 2 Platinum Preppys, a Platinum Plaisir, and a Sailor Clear Candy. If Indian pens are included, that's another 8 or so Serwex eyedroppers.

I also have a ton of Japanese gel pens (I like Zebra Sarasa, Pilot Hi-Tec-C, Pilot G2, Pilot Frixion and Pentel Sliccy), a few Korean gel pens (Dong-A) and Pilot Metropolitan gel roller and ballpoints. (Okay, so I partially got the gel roller because it meant I could get more use out of the G2s I had kicking around, because it's a much more sturdy body and make than the standard pen bodies for gel pens.)
