Over the weekend I finished a pair of "Miyabi Shibui" type pens with "Tame-Momiji-Nuri".
The parts turned from ebonite and coated with urushi lacquer.
Small maple leafs are painted with thick urushi lacquer and pressed on a red lacquer ground, them still wet, the "stamps" are sprinkled with gold powder. After hardening, 10 layers of transparent urushi is applied, then the surface is slightly ground and polished to bring out the maple leaf pattern. Again 10 layers of transparent urushi is applied and ground flat and polished
Capped: 150 mm, Barrel 115 x 14 mm, Cap 70 x 17 mm.

Have a great week,

Wonderful - like a misty autumn morning. I find that misty golden effect really beautiful.

Hi Adit, Thank you. I get my urushi from a friend, who collects his own urushi in Nagano Japan.
You can get good material here http://www1.odn.ne.jp/j-lacquer/home_eng.html

Cheers,

Martin
