Just got an old Jadeite Sheaffer Flat Top and noticed something odd about it when cleaning the pen.

There is no serial number. As opposed to other flattop seen here:

What?! anyone have information on this? The one without the stamping also appears to be an oversized model and is a bit girthier. The no-serial-pen seen above the serial-pen here:

Any thoughts?

Not certain, but I think you might at least find interesting info on a thread posted here (https://fpgeeks.com/forum/showthread.php/7012-Sheaffer-Lifetime-Nib-Numbers-Explained-At-Last) that leads to a good article.

Really only one possibility; it simply pre-dates the use of serial numbers.

Oh right. Of course. Hahaha. Duh. And for a second I was thinking it was a bootlegged shadow-market pen, its serial number buffed away to hide the crime...
...but alas.

I think it is actually an earlier example which has different engraves...

As noted above, it pre-dates the use of serial numbers.
