A first attempt at anything is always uncertain, so kudos to the dozen brave souls who attended the very first meeting of the newly formed Central Ohio Pen Club. While none of us knew quite what to expect, everyone had a great time. I was so busy having fun I didn’t get many pictures, but thought I’d at least share a few.
The club is open to anyone, and we invite all you pen people to join us at our next meeting, Saturday June 3, 10am – Noon at Coffee Mess Coffee Shop, 4543 Scioto-Darby Rd., Hilliard, Ohio (just outside Columbus). NOTE REVISED LOCATION!

As we waited for late arrivals and shared a bit of our backgrounds and interests, Jack regaled us with tales of “how it used to be”. I’m old enough to remember that the price of gold was deregulated and climbed immediately to $300+ per ounce from $35. But Jack remembers how pens were disappearing as people grabbed them up and yanked out the nibs (with pliers!!!) to sell the gold. Even levers were ripped off pens. Perhaps people didn’t realize that they were plated, not solid gold like the nibs.
With everyone on board and introductions done, the pens came out. I only have a few photos.

With pens, ink, and paper available, Henry showed us his talents at making nibs sing. And the pens he had brought (many of which he had personally tuned), demonstrated his capability.

Pens, paper, ink, and great company. What could be better? How about a free pen? Everyone received a lovely gift – their choice of a gift pen from the stash brought by Tim. What a guy!
