1. 1947 Parker VS (Black, button filler, 14k EF nib). The Parker VS, whose name was generally accepted to denote "Vacumatic Successor," were high-quality pens known for their exceptionally smooth nibs and unique details. Yet they're often overlooked by collectors. A link to Richard Binder's compendious profile of this model: http://www.richardspens.com/?page=ref/profiles/vs.htm. The VS was something of a melange of materials and design details from other Parker models: barrel and clutch-operated lustraloy cap from the 51, nib from the Vacumatic (sans feather), and clip from the striped Duofold (but nickel plated). This pen measures 5 1/2" capped. It comes equipped with the proper semi-flex 14k Parker nib, which lays down a smooth and consistent EF line – I'd call it a clean and crisp, perfect for fine details. Parker improved on their button-filler design for the VS, replacing the floating brass button with a machined aluminum button, which was threaded into the back of the barrel much like a Vacumatic filler. This pen also features the short-lived "Vis-O-Feed": a transparent feed for checking whether the pen is full. Deep, fully legible "Parker VS" imprint and datecode suggests this pen was manufactured in '47. Condition is Superb. A tiny pin-prick of corrosion to cap close to the clip (see photo). But the rest of the cap's finish is extremely well-preserved and ding-free, as though the pen was scarcely ever used. No other issues.

2. 1951 Parker 51 (Navy Grey, Aerometric filler, full-sized, 14k F/M nib). 51s sort of speak for themselves, so I'll keep this one short. Measures a hair under 5 1/2" capped. Smooth 14k nib lays down a nice, wet F/M line. Fully legible imprint with '51' datecode. Clean and filling with the Aerometric mechanism. Condition is excellent with no dings to the lustraloy cap, but microscratches consistent with drawer wear. A solid example of this 1950s workhorse, ready to plow the fields again.

3. 1938 Vacumatic Junior (grey marble, double-jewel, standard girth, nickel-plated trim, lockdown filler, EF nib). The early, lockdown filling Vac Juniors are scarcer than the later plastic-filler Jrs, being heavier, more solid-feeling pens as well. Capped length is 4 7/8" – comparable to a Pelikan 400. Proper monotone 14k Parker Vac arrow nib lays down a smooth EF line. Lockdown filler is fully functional, locks into position, and is free of unsightly wear. Color is excellent and even across the barrel and cap, but the pen has lost nearly all of its transparency. Nickel plated trim is better than most on this model. No underlying brass is visible, but some microscratches dull the original luster. Deep imprint and date code are fully legible. A clean pen and a solid writer, which I had in my collection for some time before chancing upon another that was all but NOS.

4. 1930s Sheaffer Lifetime Balance Statesman (grey marble, full-sized, nickel-plated trim, lever filler, 14k two-toned EF Lifetime nib). In my own collecting, I focus on vintage celluloid with chrome trim. The challenge is finding such trim in clean condition, as it was far more susceptible to brassing, corrosion, etc. For a decade I dreamed of owning a full-sized Sheaffer in grey marble, which competes with Roseglow in being the scarcest color among the Balances. A nice example of this pen eluded me until this past year, when I stumbled upon no fewer than 5 in excellent condition (2 full-sized Statesmen and 3 oversized Premier!). Having acquiring all these, I now realize I'd be happy with keeping just 2 (1 lever filler and 1 vac filler).

So here's a jewel for your collection. The pen measures 5 5/8" capped. Proper two-toned Lifetime nib lays down a smooth and consistent EF line. Condition is excellent: no brassing whatsoever (!) to the clean, bright trim or the masking on the nib; even color across barrel and cap; and visulated section has good transparency, only slightly ambered to orange. The only noteworthy cosmetic issue is a heat-stamped personal engraving on the side of the barrel (see photo). After filling it with black china marker, however, it's pretty inconspicuous. China marker is durable, but can easily be removed with a toothbrush if desired.

Apologies for the ink on the nibs in some of the photos. Pens will be emptied and nibs wiped down before shipment.
