Byakudan-nuri is the style of sprinkling Kin-Dei (gold powders mixed with glue) or Gin-Dei (Silver powders mixed with glue) all over the surface of the pen. After the middle layer is painted in Urushi, the gold foils are cut into a design. This is called Haku-e. And finally applying a final coat with clear Urushi to finish.

Why must they put that clip on them? It really distracts from the gorgeous finish. Besides, who would wear one of these in a shirt pocket?

I'm the opposite, if the pen didn't have a clip, it would look unfinished to me.

Plus I consider the clip to be part of the design or style of the pen. It doesn't have to be really be functional, neither would I necessarily *have* to put all my pens in my pocket.

Personal preferences, I guess.
