One of the biggest problems on forums is 'posts boosting'. While it's not really a problem here at the moment, we would like to keep it from becoming a problem in the future.

There are users who LOVE to say 'thanks' when ever they can. How can it hurt? Their post count goes up, they have nothing to loose.

There are also users who really like to express their thanks to post but don't like posting a post that looks like they're post boosting.

Finally comes the posters of these useful posts. They have no idea how many people really likes their posts if only some people say 'thanks'.

We've found a solution that fixes ALL these problems - except for those users who like post boosting. This places a button called 'Thanks' in the lower left of each comment:
2070

When a user clicks on it, it places his username in a box right under the post saying that so-and-so says 'thanks' for the post. Every-one who clicks is placed in one box, like so:
2071

Feel free to try it out!

After you say Thanks will you be notified of additonal posts to the topic as if you had posted a comment?

No, clicking 'Thanks' will not automatically subscribe you to the thread. You'll need to click on the "Thread Tools" drop down and click "Subscribe to Post".

Awesome. I'm forever saying thanks, and I'm sure more than 1/2 of my post count is due to saying just that. You rock Dan!

Interesting the way the thanks button disappears when you thank the poster and a 'Remove your thanks' notation appears.

You can un-thank someone?

Well it stops you profusely thanking someone a hundred times.

You can also let a poster think you have thanked them and then take it away some time later....did Eric ask for that feature ?

I spend 98% of my forum time on Tapatalk. Near as I can tell, it remains a thankless app. ;):p

Thanks for letting me know! I use Tapatalk but not nearly that much. I'll see if there's a mod to get it to work in Tapatalk.

Turns out you just have to tap on the post and it should pop up in the menu:
2088

Nice one. The thanks button gets it just right.

More efficient than the old '+1' + quote + post - and says more.

Am enjoying FPG's relaxed and honest style.

Maybe there could be a 'no thanks' button, too?
'F*@k you' button etc?
Whilst not endless, the list could be long.

Only joking.
Serious thanks for FPG.
Loving it.

Enjoy

Oh, I'm on a number of forums that have gone "button crazy". Such as:

Agree
Disagree
Yay!
Thanks
Hug
Laugh
Groan
Pie (as in "Mmmmm, *pie*")
Screwdriver (as in the rusty kind, and what you can do with it...)

Yeah, it can go on and on... :)

Just. . . Wow! That seems like a lot of physical activity for a forum. ;)

Just part of an all-around, active and healthy lifestyle. Eat your greens, watch the sodium, get plenty of exercise... :)
