View Full Version : 75th Anniversary... are there any known fakes?

Thinking about buying a 75th Anniversary pen or pencil. Seen a bunch out there that have the big square box (with the gold looking ribbon), manuals, and all, but of course no boutique stamp.

Are there any known fakes of the 75th Ani products out there or are they all pretty much good to go if they have the whole "kit" contents?

It's a bit dangerous to give a blanket approval and say: "Yes. they're all okay"

But I've never seen or heard of any fakes of this series. Generally, the majority of fakes I have seen are the simpler cartridge models (144) and a lot of rollerballs and ballpoints. Maybe because these sell in greater numbers than the more specialised pens? (Just guessing, here) Also seen a lot of fakes of models which have never even existed in the Montblanc range.

Potential buyers of the 75th Anniversary series of pens/pencils will probably have a bit more knowledge of what they are looking at, making it harder for the fakers to authenticate convincingly.

As I've said, I'm just musing here, this is not gospel. Double check everything. If you're buying online, post any details or concerns on here, other members may be able to chime in and advise.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info. This [link (http://www.ebay.com/itm/MONTBLANC-MEISTERSTUCK-SPECIAL-75th-ANNIVERSARY-EDITION-167-0-9mm-PENCIL-/171029649996?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT&nma=true&si=BfigjKZoPrpA9%252BUI9hK6DaYqxY8%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc)] is what I ended up buying. Does it look like the real deal?

Thanks!

Fair enough, I bow to Jar's experience.

I'd like the listing to have shown a picture of the whole pencil, as well as just the close-ups. But, from what is shown, I'd say it looks pretty good. Not got one to compare with, so only going on gut reactions.
If you have a Montblanc store nearby, you could take it in to have it checked out?

Fingers crossed for you.

(If it turns out to be fake, eBay has a protection policy which could help you to be refunded. Hope it doesn't come to that)

Yeah, I have a pretty good feeling about this. At least at a glance (and a little more) all the details seem to be in place. I don't see anything obviously bad... although I'm not an expert. I did take a pen once to MB to get authenticated and all they did was look at it and the box and all to see if it seemed legit. I'm sure they'd probably authenticate a really good fake if nothing was obviously off. They didn't use any cool lights or gizmos or any secret MB method as far as I could tell in the process! lol

To date, I've generally required some form of "proof" that the pens that I buy are "real". 3 had an instruction manual that was stamped by a boutique with serial and all that written down, 1 had a repair invoice from MB, 1 an actual letter from MB written to the person (by name) that I bought it from (he won it in a drawing), and 1 is straight from Saks 5th Ave, so that's definitely legit. Couldn't find any pencils with the level of proof that I wanted, so this seemed like the next best thing...
