View Full Version : The FP Geeks Themed Sketch

This is the resurrection of of the themed sketch, however we will be working monthly.

Here is your challenge: at the beginning of each month, a theme will be posted. Anyone whom wants to participate makes one or more sketches of their interpretation of the theme during the month. You can post one, or one each day, or all at once - it's up to you. If you can't post it during the month, that's OK, too. The purpose is to get folks to draw, create and have some fun.

As far as medium, though pen and ink are encouraged, you can use pencil, watercolor, charcoal, crayon, or digital media. I would encourage you to occasionally get out of your comfort zone and try something new. Think you can't draw -- BS! Anyone can draw, and we want many of you to play along, so please give it a shot.

There is no right or wrong way to interpret a theme, so think outside the box. Likewise, there are no prizes, other than the self satisfaction you get from creating a work of art. So come on in and enter a sketch or two.

Since there will be a total solar eclipse in North America, later this month (and I am in North America) the first theme, for August 2017 will be SUN. So let's light up this place.

I had the same idea as you did here before settling on the Sundial above.
The sun as depicted by various tribes and cultures around the world is worthy of a study in itself.

Yes it is . . . I have another planned, though it is really complex. It is also interesting how some older cultures interpreted a solar eclipse.

I actually have a couple decent sets of brushes at home... but this was done at work, and my art supplies don't travel with me on a daily basis!

I have another idea in my head. I just need to find the time to accomplish it... or rather make something like 6 scrap copies before making the one I share with others!

I had to think hard for anything I've done which features the sun. (Too cold and wet to get outside at the moment.) It's a small oil painting of the old caravan we have in the back paddock - done plein air on a sunny day while dodging flies, sheep and sunburn.

Thanks :) but to be honest I have way less control than I would like to have, but it's enough to do line art in my drawings
You are right, itˋs not an easy tool.
I saw some cool videos using it and thought: "Great I want to have that part also".
But when I received it I thought: "Son of a gun, this is pretty darn difficult"
In the meanwhile I also love it, but itˋs not an easy one.
What I still do not master is writing properly with it ( I intentionally do not write brush calligraphy as I'm so far away of it).

Interpret as you can -- something that starts with the letter "G" (or "g"), something that looks like the letter "G", maybe even the letter "G" (calligraphy).

No, it doesn't have to be English.
