1. 1934-5 OS/Premier Sheaffer Balance (grey marble, NPT, EF/F two-tone Lifetime nib): widely regarded as the scarcest color among Sheaffer's Balance, grey/silver pearl marble was only offered from 1934-6 – one year less than the coveted Rose Glow. Oversized Balances in this size have become pretty durn hard to find these days. Once in a blue moon, one will crop up in online storefronts or at a show for at least twice my asking price. This pen measures 5 1/2" capped, approx. 6 1/4" posted, and has a cap opening girth of >1/2" as one would expect from an oversized pen. It features a proper two-tone Lifetime nib that lays down a smooth and consistent F/EF line.
Condition: Excellent. Fully restored with genuine silicone sac from David Nishimura installed to preserve the color – guaranteed to fill and write as designed. No chips, cracks, bent/misaligned tines, or threading issues. Unlike most grey marble Balances one finds these days, the color on this pen is bright and even across the barrel and cap. Nickel plated trim is better than most by a wide margin, retaining much of its original luster. The clip is all but flawless, but there are some scratches and a couple spots of edge brassing on the cap band, the thinnest sliver on the side of the lever, and a professional monogram on the back of the cap band. The photos are representative here – I've done my best to capture all the angles. Ink view window in the section is a nice bright yellow hue with great transparency (still had a little ink in there for the photos, which I'll make sure to flush out). I see no discernible wear to the imprint, which remains extraordinarily deep.
