149 dating question

I have a 149 with W. Germany engraved on the cap band, so it's in the early 90's but also bares the 18k nib stamping, so that pins it to roughly 90/91 I think correct?

Two-tone nib with platinum on gold 18K is 1991-92 til about 1995, and three tone gold-on platinum-on gold 18K is roughly 1995-2012. The last date may be incorrect. At some point in past 3 or 4 or 5 years (but perhaps earlier) the 18K was dropped and the gold caratage is marked only Au 750.

Hi Joseph, The 18K nib is more of an indicator. The clip is the most frequently changed part of a 149. Some people abuse & bend or break them, so they are easily replaced. I don't believe that is the case with your pen however. Enjoy your 149, even without a definitive date. I have one assembled from spare parts: 60s barrel & piston mechanism, 70s nib, 80s feed, 80s cap & clip. Writes wonderfully. Ugly, worn, full of scratches -- but a great writer & that's what's important. Enjoy your wknd. Best wishes, Barry

You can neither date or marry your pen, it is completely... ah!... sorry, only read the title... happy you got the pen dated, I also one of those people that likes to know about my pens :)
