The Central Ohio Pen Club met this past Sunday and continues to grow. Meeting attendance generally runs between 15 and 20 pen crazies with plenty of pens and ink for show & tell, sampling, and just sharing the joy that is fountain pens. I snapped a few pictures to give you a flavor, and hope that you’ll consider joining us at an upcoming meeting. Meeting schedule is at the end of this post.

Two of our members just returned from the Washington DC Supershow and shared a few of their experiences. Ellie had great luck finding special inks, including a number of Noodlers LE’s from various shows, which he generously allowed us to sample.

Ellie was especially pleased with his score of a full bottle of Noodlers Red Oak Garnet, whose box had been hand numbered #1/27 by the man himself, Nathan Tardiff

I had expected to see a deep garnet red, but Jessica’s sampling showed it to be different than my expectation.

My comments calling it a bit feminine drew quick criticism from Ellie and Jessica, who pointed out that historically red was always thought to be a masculine color. I have learned from 46 years of marriage that the best policy to follow when at the bottom of a hole is to stop digging, so I said how much I liked the Boston Brahmin Blue and beat a hasty retreat.

Rick told the group that for him one of the highlights in DC was meeting the renowned pen reviewer SBRE Brown. Rick is a fairly conservative dresser while Stephen Brown is a bit less conservative. Can you tell who was who in this photo taken at the show?

Rick was especially fond of the Franklin Christoph Model 31 he bought in DC. It was crafted in a new resin produced for FC by Jonathan Brooks and first made available at the show. Each matte finish pen is different, with colors varying from green to blue to gray.

The crowd at our meeting couldn’t wait to get started on playing with each others’ pens and ink, and there was certainly something for everyone
