A diverse group of vintage pens to offer this weekend, lovely writers all.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Condition (n.b.): With the exception of #4, all the pens listed below have been restored in the last few months. They’ve been cleaned, outfitted with new sacs/diaphragms, and their nibs adjusted when needed. Each is guaranteed to fill and write as designed without leaks or other issues. These pens have no chips, cracks, personal engravings (except #3), bent nibs, misaligned tines, missing or mismatched parts, or threading problems.

Shipping: USPS First-Class with tracking to CONUS locations is included in the prices below. But buyer may opt for USPS Priority for an additional $4. Please contact me for shipping quote if located overseas (delivery confirmation required).

Order, Payment, & Guarantee: Pens are placed on hold for the first person to PM me with firm request to purchase (a request with the words “place [X] on hold for me” would be best to avoid confusion), to which I’ll reply with payment details. If I haven't received Paypal payment within 24 hrs, then they become available to the next person. All pens are guaranteed to be in the condition in which I've described them. If I've missed something or the filling mechanism is not fully functional, the buyer may contact me up to 7 days after receiving the pen for a full refund (issued once I receive the pen back in the same condition as sold). I've sold pens online for about a decade. Please check my past listings here as well as on the classifieds and historical sales forums on FPN (username: Estragon) for some of my previous offerings.

1. Sheaffer Balance #3 (grey & red vein, long slender/"Sovereign" size, NPT, lever filler, EF semi-flex 14k nib): Measures 5 3/8" capped. 14k semi-flex Sheaffer's #3 nib lays down a buttery smooth and consistent EF line and flexes to F/M under moderate pressure. Genuine silicone sac from David Nishimura installed to preserve the color. Color is even across the cap and the barrel. Deep, fully legible imprint. Nickel plated trim is better than most, but has some microscratches and general wear (see photos). A solid writer and a beautiful pen to behold, the red veins being quite striking in person. Price: $70 – $65 SOLD

2. 1932-3 Sheaffer Balance set (Marine Green marble, full-sized/"Statesman," GPT, lever filler, EF/EEF 14k Lifetime nib). Measures 5 5/16” capped. Firm 14k Lifetime nib lays down a smooth and consistent EF/EEF line – perfect for small and detailed script. Condition is excellent. These pens are often found with barrels discolored to a dark green/brown hue. This one shows no discoloration. The color is bright and even across barrel and cap – the green is stunningly vibrant in person. Genuine silicone sac from David Nishimura installed to preserve the color. Deep, fully legible imprint. Spot of brassing to the bottom of the cap band, located on the back of the cap (see detail photo). Were it not for this blemish, I'd call this pen near mint. Includes matching pencil, which is in good working order, propelling, retracting, and gripping lead as designed. No brassing to the trim of the pencil. The pencil's only notable flaw is some crazing to the surface of the plastic (not crystallization or deterioration, but rather something resembling scratches in a clearcoat). An iconic set seldom seen with vibrant color so well presevered. Price: $160 SOLD

3. 1936-42 Sheaffer Balance Statesman (Marine Green striated, full-sized, GPT, lever filler, F/M two-tone 14k Lifetime nib). Measures 5 ˝" capped. Firm, two-tone 14k Lifetime nib in the upturned "Waverly" style lays down a smooth and consistent F/M line (another super smooth writer typical of Sheaffers of this period). Excellent condition. Pen looks like it didn't see much use at all – plastic was shiny and smooth when I found it. No brassing whatsoever to the trim. Deep, fully legible imprint. Another pen I'd call near mint were it not for a single flaw: a proferssionally heat-stamped personalization to the barrel ("P.M. Davis") – see detail photo. To conceal the personalization, I've filled it in with black china marker, which I've found to be durable but easily removable with a tooth brush if the buyer wishes. A pen in time capsule condition and a sweet writer to boot. Price: $100 SOLD

4. [UNRESTORED] 1940s Sheaffer Triumph (Carmine red, full-sized, GPT, vacuum/plunger filler, EF two-tone 14k Lifetime Triumph nib). Measures 5 1/8" capped. Firm, two-tone 14k Lifetime Triumph nib in the "waverly" style lays down a smooth F/M line when dipped. Beautiful celluloid in the more sought after Carmine color. Though it draws a little ink, the filling system is unrestored. I don't restore vacuum fillers, but can enthusiastically recommend Gerry Berg (gberg@sbc.edu) for this repair. He's affordable, does good work, and the last time I sent him a batch of 4 of these Sheaffers, he had them back to me in a month (and this was over the holidays!). Considering the crystal clear transparency (see detail photo) and superb condition, this one would surely make a worthy candidate. Transparent sections of barrel show exceptional clarity, with only slight yellow tinge as opposed to red or brown. Deep, fully legible imprint. No brassing to the trim but for a tiny spot on each side of the bottom of the clip ball. Send it to Gerry and you'll have one among the highest ink capacity pens in vintage pendom with fully visible ink level for not much more than $100. Price: $75 SOLD

5. 1942 Parker Striped Duofold Senior (green and gold striated, GPT, vacumatic filler, EF 14k Duofold nib). Measures about 5 ˝" capped. 14k nib lays down a smooth and consistent EF line (note: based on the date code, the nib would be more typical on a 1940 striped Duofold Senior). Green and golden brown color exhibits a beautiful depth and chatoyance in person, reflecting different hues when the pen is tilted or rotated. Visulated barrel with ink level visible through the clear striped portions (see detail photo). Vacumatic filling system recently overhauled with new diaphragm – pen fills to the hilt! Condition is very good, with some high point wear to the cap band and tassie and some deep scratches on one portion of the barrel (see detail photo). These blemishes have been factored into the price. Price: $130 $120 SOLD

6. 1940s Eversharp Skyline (navy, full-sized, GPT, lever filler, M 14k nib). Measures 5 1/8" capped. Firm 14k Skyline nib lays down a buttery smooth and consistent M line (apologies for the ink on the nib in the photo – pen will be flushed before shipment). The Skyline was designed by Henry Dreyfuss and exhibits an elegant integration of function and a streamlined style influenced by industrial design and the Art Deco movement. Little wonder it would become by 1945 the best selling pen in America. This one is a solid example. Excellent condition with no brassing to the trim but for the typical sliver on the lever caused by posting the cap over the years. A charming pen and a solid writer. Price: $70 SOLD

7. 1950s Sheaffer Snorkel Statesman (pastel blue, GPT, snorkel filler, EF palladium silver Triumph nib). Measures 5 5/8" capped. EF palladium silver Triumph nib in the upturned "Waverly" style lays down a smooth and consistent EF line. This pen exudes that midcentury aesthetic and gee-whiz quality we've come to associate with 1950s Americana given its pastel blue color and Rube Goldberg filling mechanism (has anyone ever counted the number of parts in these things)? The filling mechanism was fully restored in the past month: outfitted with a new sac, *all* seals replaced, and then re-sealed with Sheaffer-formula thread sealant. Guaranteed to fill to factory capacity and shoot water out the snorkel tube like a squirt gun! Excellent condition with no brassing or notable flaws. Price: $100 $90 SOLD

8. EPENCO (Eagle) "Checkle" (grey checker & marble, lever filler, F stainless nib). Measures a hair over 5" capped. In the early 20th century, Eagle was known as a pencil manufacturer. Some years after they entered the fountain pen business, they changed their name to EPENCO (Eagle Pen Company). If I had to guess, I'd say this pen is from the 1940s. What drew me to it was the crazy pattern of its celluloid, which doesn't appear to have any counterparts from other pen companies. It's a marbled pattern against a checkered background that I hereby call "Checkle" (which also once referred to hysterical laughter). Features a stainless steel EPENCO "Iridium Tipped" nib that lays down a smooth and consistent F line. Some general wear to the trim but otherwise solid. Price: $30 SOLD
