1. 1942 Vacumatic Maxima (Emerald Pearl, Vac filler, GPT, 14k XF Vac nib). Stamped with a first-quarter 1942 U.S.A. date code, this pen features an unusual configuration that may have only been manufactured over the months Parker made the transition from the double-jewel Senior Maxima. This single-jeweled Maxima, generally considered scarcer than its double-jeweled counterpart, has a wide cap band, polished chrome Speedline filler, and two-tone nib. It measures 5 3/8” capped. The proper 14k Maxima nib lays down a firm, smooth, and consistent XF line. Condition: Fully disassembled, cleaned, and restored with new diaphragm in the past month – guaranteed to give a strong fill to factory capacity with no leaks or other issues. Cosmetic condition is excellent on the whole. I see no brassing to the trim. Good transparency with breather tube/ink level fully visible. Deep, fully legible imprint. The only notable flaws are a professional monogram to the indicia on the cap band (“W.G.N.”) and a band of wear to the rhodium plating on the nib. Price: $330 SOLD

2. 1920s Parker D.Q. (BCHR, button filler, 14k XF/XXF Super-Flexible Lucky Curve #2 nib). Parker “Duofold Quality” full-sized ringtop, measuring 5 ½” capped). Elegant chasing pattern in groups of 4 vertical lines. The nib is a delightfully expressive Parker Lucky Curve #2, which lays down a consistent XF line that flexes to a BBB+ under light pressure (see writing sample). Great hairlines and snap-back, but the point verges on an XXF, so it can be a little toothy (not scratchy) for a heavy hand while rewarding a light hand with smoothness. Condition: Nice rich, black color with little oxidation and chasing is still strong. I noticed some dirt in the grooves on the blindcap after taking the photo, which I’ll brush out before shipment. Some wear to the middle of the imprint, but still fully legible under good light. No other appreciable flaws to speak of. Price: $165 SOLD

3. Sheaffer Touchdown Triumph w/ sticker (chased gold-filled, Touchdown filler, 14k M Triumph nib). Measures a hair over 5 ¼” capped. Gold filled model with factory sticker on the section. Two-tone Triumph nib with an upturned “Waverly” style point lays down a buttery smooth and consistent M line. Condition: Near-mint/NOS but inked. Judging by the condition and sticker, this pen appears to have been inked and then stowed away. It has no dents or dings, which are all too common among these pens. Filling system restored with new o-ring and sac – guaranteed to fill to factory capacity without leaks or other issues. Great transparency in the ink view window. A collector-grade example of this pen.
Price: $140 SOLD

4. 1931-4 Sheaffer Balance 5-30 Set (Grey Pearl Red Veined, lever filler, GPT, 14k factory stub/cursive italic nib). Full-sized, standard girth pen measuring 5 3/8” capped. Beautiful grey marble and red veined celluloid - one of the more sought-after Balance colors. But the real treat on this pen is the nib: a factory stub or cursive italic that has all the smoothness of the former and the dramatic line variation of the latter. Lays down a smooth and consistent M line on the downstroke and XF line on the cross stroke (see writing sample). If I had another 5-30, I might be tempted to swap the nibs. I guarantee you’ll adore the way it writes. Condition: Gold-plated trim is in great shape but for a spot of brassing on each side of the clip ball. Color is even between barrel and cap. There is an inch-long rough spot on one side of the cap (see detail photo). And while I don’t see any full-fledged hairlines, holding the pen up to the light reveals some crazing/cracks to the surface layer of plastic around the cap lip. These only extend to about halfway up the band and don’t appear to run all the way through the plastic. Matching mechanical pencil fully functional, and in excellent cosmetic condition with only brassing being a sliver to the clip ball – no other issues.
