No longer available (sale pending)

vintage Montblanc 254 with BB wing nib (14c). I bought this from a pen shop in Germany with piston seals having been redone. It's a great pen, but I have a hard time with the flex. Pm me with questions or interest, shipped in CONUS. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180119/aba2cc17b2ede73b22dbaf8a4d2dc837.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180119/cbc5a58049fe4372dc2113b5778b921e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180119/1341026a27b6b573e0975273b428e60d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180119/0acc4c2239d3d4e7340d7659568adcd2.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180119/760756cc5cebac47bc0a1df8168dbd5a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180119/530955a09156f84d2d8ee18a47bdf1fa.jpg

You sure that's a BB nib? It looks quite fine...

It does look fine but writes wider than you think it should. The mark on the end to fill has bb mark. No other indicator on nib or pen.

Owning several Montblanc BB nibs, I definitely don't think that's a BB.

I think the nib must have been exchanged.

I think Ego Id Veto is right; I looked at my MB 25X series pens and they have MB nib with a different design; see here (http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/269591-montblanc-254/)for an example. My guess is that the nib is from an MB 24 that also had a #4 sized wing nib, but had a more hooded nib section, like this (http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/250435-is-this-a-mb-221/), which would have covered most of the nib lettering.

FWIW (and IMHO), this doesn't mean the pen is not a good pen - I LOVE my 252, 254 and 256 - or is even a franken-pen for that matter (since AFAIK the pen has a genuine MB nib)...just that the current nib is not the original one and might be a different size than what's indicated on the piston knob.

That being said, are there any hairline cracks on the cap? (The 25X pens were notorious for a having a slip-cap with a design that caused hairline cracks to develop over time)
