Condition (n.b.): All pens listed below have been fully disassembled, cleaned, and restored with new sacs (except the eyedroppers) in the past few months. *Each is guaranteed to fill and write as designed without leaks or other issues. These pens have no cracks, chips, personal engravings, missing parts, bent nibs, misaligned tines, or threading issues.*

1. 1930s Waterman #3 (Steel Quartz, NPT, lever filler, 14k EF Flex/Super-flex nib). Measures 5” capped. Steel quartz is my personal favorite color among the vibrant #3 celluloids. The bronze portions really flash out from the grey marble in person. Correct 14k Ideal #2 nib is between full-flex and super-flex, laying down a smooth and consistent EF line and flexing to a BBB+ under moderate pressure (see writing sample). Great snap back and hairlines make this nib well suited for Copperplate and Spencerian styles. Condition: excellent/very good, with even color, smooth, lustrous finish to the celluloid, and deep, fully legible imprint. But there is some general wear to the trim. Price: $180 SOLD

2. 1920s Waterman #52 (BCHR, NPT, lever filler, 14k EF/F Super-flex nib). Measures 5 3/8” capped. This is the factory clipless model (no holes in the cap for a clip) during a time with the option of having a clip was offered for an added cost. 14k Ideal #2 nib is super-flexible, laying down a smooth and consistent EF/F line (depending on pressure and ink) and flexing to a BBB+ under light pressure (see writing sample). Not much pressure at all required to flex this one, verging on a wet noodle. It does run quite wet – no ink bombs but it is a bit of a paint brush under pressure. I’ve also noticed that ink delivery from the feed is most consistent under full flex when the pen is held at an angle slightly closer to that of the paper (as opposed to perpendicular to it). Condition: excellent+, with strong, deep chasing, no appreciable fading to the hard rubber, no brassing to the lever, and deep, fully legible imprints on the cap, barrel, and barrel-end. An extremely well-preserved pen and a delightful writer to boot! Price: $190 SOLD

3. 1900/10s Waterman #12 Slip-Cap Eyedropper (smooth black hard rubber, eyedropper filler, 14k Flexible B/BB factory Stub nib). Measures 5 5/16” capped. What a nib on this pen! It comes equipped with a 14k Ideal #2 that appears to be a BB factory stub with some flex. Unflexed it lays down a buttery smooth and consistent B/BB on the downstroke and an EF on the cross stroke (see writing sample). Flexed under moderate pressure the downstroke is increased by about a line width. Early spoon feed with less tapered shape. I *love* how this pen writes, so I’m hoping someone will take it off my hands before I decide to hang onto it. The barrel unscrews at the section and an eyedropper or syringe is used to fill the barrel directly. Holds a lot of ink and is super easy to flush and change colors. Note, however, that some extra care must be taken with these early eyedroppers. If not stored upright or shuffled around in a bag, you often will find some excess ink in the cap, on the section, or on the underside of the feed when you uncap them. And when stored upright for a while, sometimes a little shake is necessary to re-lubricate the feed. Once you’re writing with this pen, though, the flow is as consistent as any lever filler.

Condition: excellent – I’d call it near mint if it weren’t for some minor, short surface scratches here and there. Factory black hard rubber with no fading, factory deep barrel imprint. ‘12’ imprint on the barrel end even retains much of its original red paint. A collector-grade example of this pen with a nib that’s guaranteed to please.

B]4. 1900s/10s Eagle Pen Co. Slip-Cap Eyedropper[/B] (black w/ red flecks hard rubber, eyedropper filler, 14k EF Flex nib). Measures 5 1/4” capped. Before the quality of their quality dropped off a bit in the 30s amid the Great Depression, the Eagle Pen Company produced some first-rate pens. This is one of them. The red hard rubber flecks spangled throughout the black hard rubber produce a very attractive effect that’s hard to capture on camera (the imprint photo is most representative here). This pen is quite similar in proportion and design to #3. It’s a slip-cap eyedropper that fills directly into the barrel. The same notes about eyedropper fillers from #3 apply here as well. The nib on this pen, marked ‘Warranted 14kt 1st Quality’ is also unusual in that it was made without a breather hole, resembling dip pen and very early fountain pen nibs. (From this I’d surmise that this pen is from closer to 1900.) It’s a full-flex nib, laying down a smooth and consistent EF line and flexing to a BB under moderate pressure. Condition: excellent, with no appreciable fading to the hard rubber, deep, fully legible imprint, and smooth, lustrous finish to the hard rubber. Price: $140 SOLD

5. 1920s Chilton Red Top (BCHR, GFT, pneumatic filler, 14k EF Semi-Flex nib). Not too often that Chiltons come up for sale, and when they do it’s from online merchants who charge a premium. They're uncommon pens. And nothing beats the coolness factor of a pneumatic filler. The pen is filled by extending the barrel backward from the section (see detail photo). When one places a finger over the hole at the end of the barrel and pushes the barrel back down, the pressure inside deflates the sac. One then submerses the nib and releases one’s finger to fill the pen with one hand. How the pen is filled is easier demonstrated than described. But I couldn’t find any good clips illustrating the process. So I made a quick [video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Y6EwGnglew&feature=youtu.be) of this pen being filled and emptied. Please excuse my perpetually inky fingers and freakishly long fingernail ifor playing the clawhammer banjo (poorly). Also note that my finger was placed back on the hole to empty the pen – out of frame at the end of the video.

This pen measures 4 7/8” capped and a lengthy 6 3/4” posted. It was re-sacced and its nib replaced and adjusted by Ron Zorn in the summer, so it’s ready to fill and write. The nib is a 14k semi-flex Chilton Pen #2, which lays down a smooth and consistent EF line (see writing sample).

Condition: very good. Barrel and cap are an even, dark black color, but the chasing is well worn (more so on the barrel than on the cap). Imprint is worn as well, with only the tops of the letters in ‘Chilton’ and patent info legible. Trim is mostly free of brassing but for the very top of the clip, clip ball, and a small spot on the cap band opposite the clip (see detail photo). A flawless collector showpiece it isn't. But if you've been looking for a Chilton, it's solid example and an enjoyable writer.
