View Full Version : Help Identifying a Sailor Fountain Pen

Hello all!

I have a beloved Sailor cartridge pen I picked up in an antique shop years ago. And I've never been able to identify it. I'm not interested in its value at all. I'd just love to pin down which pen it is, so I thought I'd throw out the net! I've attached some photos.

Thanks in advance.

Francis.

Potentially obvious question....

Have you tried sending pics to Sailor and asking them to identify their product for you?

Ok, so I am not an expert and I have very limited knowledge. Anything I say could well be wrong. But I want to try and help, so here goes...

The style of nib and clip place the pen in the early to mid-60's. I believe that the style was called the クロームクリップ (chroma clip), but I could be wrong and I've only ever seen it on a pocket pen.
The nib is very distinctive and different from most Sailor nibs... This too I've only ever seen on a pocket pen. But the distance that the cartridge sticks out tells me that this is definitely not a pocket pen with a changed body.
I can see the "K" on the nib, but can't tell if it is 14 or 18K. If this is a Chroma clip from the mid 60's it will have a very interesting, 2 or 3 piece feed.
Have a look here for some example pictures:

Thank you everyone for your help. I really appreciate it. Scooby, you are an actual genius. I've just emailed Sailor asking if they can help.

And Sammyo, thank you, that is as close a photo as I've ever seen of my pen. The nib in that link is identical to mine, which is a 14kt. But it is a more traditionally shaped pen than the pocket pen.

I'll get there eventually!

Thanks again for your help.

Did you ever hear back from Sailor?

Hey!

Sorry for the delay. I replied (or thought I had) a week ago. But it seems it didn't post.

Yes a lovely person from Sailor got back to me. They couldn't identify the pen, but said they'd go through the old catalogues and let me know if they did come across this pen. I'll let you know if they get back to me.

Thanks

Francis.

Tell them that if they will send you copies of the old catalogs Sammyo will scan them and create a website where everyone can look up old pens. He doesn't have anything else to do.
