My favorite is the blue and black pen and base on the left. The glass pelican base has a vintage Pelikan pen in its trumpet. I never seem to ink desk pens, though. There's no good reason why not.

Those are more interesting than the mundane desk sets I have. Very nice.

Ahem. That striking one on the left deserves a solo turn in front of the camera. Just sayin'.

So here’s a question. I have a Wahl desk pen whose base trumpet is loose and won’t stand up with a pen in it. Is this fixable?

Sure, but the socket will need gentle swaging in some fashion. Post the question in the repair forum.

I fixed the droopy trumped on a Sheaffer Imperial desk set with a bit of hot glue.

I agree with FredRydr, Swaging is the best course of action. Gentle compression via a C-Clamp on the part which holds the ball, with a buffering layer between the brass base and the C-Clamp to prevent scratches and scuffing. It will also help in avoiding creating a flat spot.

Okay. (Better late, & etc...)

Oh man! Jon, it's all your fault. I never inked this pen, and my revisit to this bumped thread led me to not only take a photo, but also to take closer look only to discover a vintage failed sac! Now I must order more sacs from The Pen Sac Co.

That's half of it. What's nice is by unscrewing the taper, you can see light through from other end of the barrel to pinpoint bits of sac, making cleanout precise and easier.

All out now. Alas, the smallest sac I have is a No. 16, and it needs a No. 15 or smaller.

A close-up of the Doric desk pen, part of a desk set with matching silver and brass pen base, calendar, blotter pad and rocker blotter. It's got a big adjustable nib, too.

Very nice, Fred.

I've given up on desk sets. I've got one on my desk, an Esterbrook 8 ball with my favorite Esterbrook desk pen (the red). I rarely use it, because i rarely sit at my desk.
