Sometimes not knowing what you are doing can be dangerous....

I was frustrated with the FPR Himalaya piston filler, it is small and messy.... so I noticed that Lamy cartridges were about the same diameter.
And using the good ol'box cutter, duct tape and chewing gum...
So far so good....

A week into this experiment and I havent ran out of ink....
No spills so far ;)

I need t make the edges of the cartridge more even so that they close better for next time... I'll finish this charge

BTW, interesting experiment: duct tape and chewing gum...?? for fixing the improvised cartridge to to the section?
So far so good...
And what happened then?
Disaster?

Nog geen ramp, maar ik ben bang voor de volgende vuuling... ik weet niet of de plastiek-patron breken gaat

Until now is going well, no leaks and have ink until the end of the week
With the Himalaya I normally get 4 days but this hack may last 10 which is a plus....

the universal solution.... duck tape, chewing gum and zip ties! LoL

Wow, keep me informed  Waarom niet gewoon schellak om te plakken?

Not bad, but my worst case scenario involves two guys with bad hair that lead countries with nuclear capabilities.

kauwgom is gewoon een graapje ;)

Ik heb geen schellak, dus alleen de patroon

-------

UPDATE:
Since we were snowed-in last night I checked the cartridge, after a week I still had 1/3 of ink (yay!)
However the cartridge had cracked on the threaded junction and thus it went to trash
Fortunately the Himalayaalso works as an eye dropper pen and no leaks!

Back to the draing board :)

You should have sat in a Titan II ICBM control center like I did for a while in the 70s. A scenario with possible incoming for your ground zero, or endless boredom punctuated with the irritation of a coded message on the comms.

Eyedropper seems like the best solution to me. Let me guess, about 3 x as much ink in the barrel as in the cartridge, so maybe for more than one month ink. Very convenient when you are snowed in. Don't forget the silicon grease on the threading of the barrel. A small/thin rubber O-ring to seal the joint + silicon grease is even better and safer.

I am now trying version 2... with a Parker Cartridge.
The plastic of the Parker seems to be more flexible than the Lamy, and they have longitudinal ribs, which make these cartridger sturdier.

This time I dipped the cartridge in hot water to soften the plastic and slowly forced a conical tool to make a ~6.1mm opening, which screwed in the body right away (silicone grease added)
Let's see ;)

Update: Parker cartridge worked great until I had to refill... then it cracked
Eyedropper seems to be the next step until I can 3d print cartridges :)

Maybe you can permanently fit a Parker converter in there so you don't have to take it our to refill?
