Back from the pen posse. There was more inky goodness as well as great discussion of important matters.

To start things off, this is a plate of Singapore Rice Noodles.

This Pen Posse was held for Alexandra, a member who is currently doing an internship down in SoCal. She was back for the weekend so what better way celebrate than to have a Pen Posse.
While Alexandra was away, she had an interesting thing happen. Before she left for SoCal, she had bought a number of new Lamy Safaris. She inked one up with BSB and in less than one week, the feed disintegrated and the nib fell out. I asked her to save the pen so we can examine the remains. This is what we found.

This pen was brand new and inked for the very first time. We noted that the failure in the feed was where the nib grips the feed.

There was more inky goodness

Yikes. Is it possible the Lamy was not flushed and the Lamy test ink reacted with the BSB? Also, if it was a new fountain pen user, could they have pressed too hard on the nib? Does not look like a noob bunch ( especially the shanker lady :D )?but just wondering.

Brand new Lamy. No traces of ink prior to filling. The user is not a noob. I'll do some more investigations since the pen is now in my possession. Unfortunately, the nib was put in another pen and was not available for examination. It is not easy tracing all of the precursor conditions. There is something about BS and this particular pen. The other Lamys purchased at the same time do not seem to have failed although they were not filled with BSB.

Thanks for the continued reminder about that ink. I intend to stay as far away as possible.

Other than that, looks like a fine time.

Lamy tests all their pens. Flushing beforehand will reveal Lamy Blue water. :)

That's so California. My use of Dude has worn off being in Texas for so long. It comes out every so often. :D (born/raised in San Jose).

I was there and still couldn't believe that they named a pen "Dude". I guess "The Dude" was 'taken'.
