There are all sorts of pencil sharpeners out there. What kind of sharpener do you use?

X-ACTO Ranger 55 Manual Pencil Sharpener with suction cup base. (X-ACTO Ranger 55 Manual Pencil Sharpener)

I used to own this planetary gears sharpener with an 1896 patent until a collector in Germany took it off my hands.

This is a good looking sharpener. Are the grips that hold the pencil rubber?

Sent from my iPad using TapatalkNo, they are metal of some sort. This sharpener gives a perfect point every time. I've had one in my room for 2 + years. My wife has used one at least 5 years - she teaches middle school while I teach in high school.

I haven’t used it yet but the DUX has a small dial on it. 1. 2. 3. The dial gives 3 different points. I wanna get a hand crank sharpener that has rubber grips for around 50 bucks. Give or take

I was once told that in the USA it was possible to purchase a model V10 Chrysler Viper engine - powering a pencil sharpener. I didn't belileve it but was amused by the idea.

Meanwhile kind friends, with a nod to my moniker and enthusiasm, bought this one for me. Lovely!

I have so many. I use the Palomino KUM Blackwing sharpener, a Rachetta, a Kutsuwa Stad T-Gaal, and M & R Studio sharpener, and a plain Jane Kum sharpener . I like all of them, but I probably use the Sonic Rachetta the most frequently.

@Bob :)

The Apsara is not bad, either. But it requires to be more careful, and aware of not breaking the lead while sharpening. Otherwise, point wise, it is Masterpiece's equivalent.

I have a cheap manual rotary upstairs in my office, but most of the time I use one of my 0.5mm mechanicals. I also keep a cheap Papermate Sharpwriter disposable mechanical pencil in each of my music folders, for marking music. Don't have to sharpen those, and it doesn't hurt when one of them gets lost.

In childhood, I loved to use sharpeners with different characters but I remember, only steel sharpeners were good at sharpening the lead of my pencil. These days, different kind of sharpeners are available in the market. I am going to share some good manual and electric ones with you:

School Smart - I remember, my daughter is using it from two years and quality is outstanding
Laneco - It is a very good electric one. I love its colour
Prismacolor Scholar - It is a very good manual one

However, you can see more good electric pencil sharpeners here ( https://bestazy.com/8-best-electric-pencil-sharpener/ ). I am planning to gift X-ACTO ProX to my daughter next week.

Prior to yesterday, whatever slipjoint pocketknife was in my pocket, or a Stanley 10-499 Box Cutter/Utility Knife.

As of yesterday, an X-Acto KS manual wall mount (or desk mount) sharpener with twin cutters, like I remember my teachers having on the left front corner of their desk (only one of my 3rd grade teachers had hers on the wall) back in grade school and Junior High during the 1960's, which arrived yesterday.

Thank you for sharing a photo of the knife, to be honest I have never seen a knife like this shape. We used to sharpen pencils with an ordinary kitchen knife when I was a kid - but it's not convenient. I would love to try this method!

I do a lot of graphite drawing, and occasionally use color pencils. I have tried many, many sharpeners, I love the KUM brand. They are just humble little handheld sharpeners, but I find they work great for my needs. There are several versions, including a long point. They last longer than most handheld ones, and do the job to perfection. Easy to find at most art supply sites, or on Amazon.

I picked up a Staedtler 502 and it doesn't work for my 925 35-20 or my Rotring rapidpro because the knurled sections are too wide.

I found this https://www.deltaart.ca/product/00/01PICD4704/Disc-Pico-Large-Lead-Pointer at the same shop, but I cannot find any reviews of it. Does anyone know anything about it, and whether it would accommodate lead holders with larger diameter sections?

Bakelite...DUX....made in W.Germany..............so is nowhere near as old as I had thought.
The top is an 8 with two sizes of sharpener.
6 1/2cm/@ 2 1/2" high; 5cm/2" wide.
I have a few pencils here and there, but don't use them. So I do have a classic two finger pinch one somewhere ...like the old bloke carries in his back pack........just in case.

One reason for choosing mechanical pencils over clutch pencils is because I was always forgetting to sharpen the clutch using the in build sharpener and writing with a blunt stick of lead ain't fun or useful. With mechanicals I can get a nice line without ever having to sharpen at all. It is a win for me at least.
