Condition (n.b.): All pens listed below have been disassembled, cleaned and restored with new sacs installed (aside from eyedroppers) in the last couple months. Each is guaranteed to fill and write as designed without leaks or other issues. These pens have no cracks, chips (except #3), personal engravings, missing parts, bent nibs, misaligned tines, or threading issues.

1. 1908-10s Waterman #22 Taper Cap Eyedropper (BCHR w/ GF bands, eyedropper, 14k XF Superflex nib). Measures a lengthy 5 13/16” capped. Cap is designed to securely post on the end of the barrel at 6 7/8” in length. This is an example of one of Waterman’s early taper cap eyedroppers in black chased hard rubber and two gold-filled barrel bands in an ornate, repoussé pattern that evokes the high Victorian style Waterman adopted before embracing the basic, utilitarian aesthetic of their best-selling 52. Much scarcer by comparison. No threads, but cap locks securely on section. Section unscrews to fill the barrel with an eyedropper/pipette – holds far more ink than a lever filler of the same size. Super-flexible 14k Ideal NY #2 nib is a true joy to use, laying down a smooth and consistent XF line that widens to a juicy BBB+ under light pressure (see writing sample below). An excellent choice for expressive styles of writing such as Spencerian and Copperplate.

Condition: No brassing to the gold filled bands. Hard rubber has little fading, appearing black under natural light with a hint of chocolate brown/black under incandescent light. Moderate wear to the chasing, but it’s all still visible and tactile with a fingernail. Similar wear to the imprint, but still fully legible. On the whole, an extremely well preserved pen.

2. 1903-7 Waterman #12 Eyedropper (smooth BHR, nickel accommodation clip, 14k XXF Superflex/Wet Noodle nib). Measures 5 5/16” capped. This is the oldest pen of the batch and has the most flexible nib. Slip cap eyedropper fills by eyedropper/pipette when section is unscrewed. This pen came clipless from the factory at a time when clips were an optional upgrade on Waterman’s pens. I’ve outfitted it with a generic, nickel-plated accommodation clip of the period, which can easily be removed if needed. Early globe imprint on the barrel with 1884 patent date but no 1899 or 1903 dates. This pen is equipped with an early 14k Ideal #2 with a long-tined, Artist Nib profile – the lettering on the top dates it to 1903-7. True to form, this nib is *extremely* soft and capable of anything you can throw at it. It’s somewhere between Super-flexible and Wet Noodle, laying down an XXF line that widens to a BBB+ under minimal pressure (see writing sample below). Superb hairlines and snap-back make this one a consummate choice for Spencerian, Copperplate, or ink drawing.

Condition: excellent. Dark black hue to the hard rubber with no discernible fading. Smooth lustrous finish to the surface. Slight wear to the fully legible imprint. No noteworthy flaws to speak of.

3. 1916-18 Waterman #52 1/2 (smooth BHR, NPT, lever filler, 14k XF Superflex nib). Measures 5 3/8” capped. Similar to pen 2 above in length and girth but this one is a lever filler with nickel-plated clip. Super-flexible 14k Ideal NY #2 nib is another very expressive writer, laying down an XF line that widens to a BBB+ under light pressure (see writing sample below) – apologies for the correction; it was late and I was juggling Watermans! With most inks, this one is on the wet side under full flex – a paintbrush with flow that keeps up no matter the speed. But if you prefer a crisper line (as in the writing sample), I recommend an ink with stingier flow. Impressive variation on this one.

Condition: excellent/very good. Dark black color to the smooth hard rubber. Clean trim. Deep, fully legible imprint. Stamp on the end of the barrel remains deep and carries traces of the original red paint. The only notable blemish is a 1/4” portion toward the end of the barrel where someone has lightly scraped the surface with a tool. These scrapes do not penetrate the barrel; they’re superficial but just deep enough that they can’t be polished out (see last photo above). Other than this, the pen is in collector-grade condition.
