You picked the wrong holiday, the guy at the helm messed up, didn't have a compass, a P51 or a clue where he was going. He'd drunk all the rum, and you got the last lifeboat out of Cruiseville and landed on quite a nice island. Think warm sun all day, cool breezy nights and no bugs that want to eat soft tissue. The captain, who was a little rat-faced, told you you could have the following:
Eight pieces of music
One book
One luxury item

Don't be trying to blag whole albums or entire species of pens or a complete first edition handwritten set of something. That is not in the spirit of things.
Go...

Any eight pieces of music, provided they were on a CD
Bushcraft by Richard Graves
A knife

The CD could be used as a signalling mirror by reflecting the sun.
Bushcraft is an excellent book with many helpful hints for living in the wilderness. It would likely be very helpful, as well as interesting to read.
A knife would have many uses, and be a great luxury indeed for a shipwrecked soul. If by "luxury item" you mean something fancy, beautiful and expensive, then make that David Broadwell field knife.

And a fountain pen...? Not one of my selections I'm afraid. It would be my first choice of items after I got off the island, so as to write down my adventures while the memories were still fresh.

Any eight pieces of music.
Any book.
Working satellite phone.

Not really in the spirit of the thing, though, is it?

Desert island. An island in the desert? Or a deserted island?

Desert island. An island in the desert? Or a deserted island?

Deserted island. There's nothing there except nice weather and stuff you request from The Captain, right befoge he yells, abandon ship.

Should have said, everyone gets a copy of the bible (presumably, their prefered edition/version.) Beyond that, it's eight pieces of music, a book, a luxury item.

...or the Koran, or Torah, or Vedas, or Atheist's handbook etc - whichever suits your spiritual calling?
(BBC also include Complete works of Shakespeare as a standard freebie.)

Come on, Annie. You can't start a thread like this and not lay down your own choices. Spill the beans!

I listen to it most weeks, but still haven't made my mental list.
Am dithering. Will attempt to do better and contribute. Soon(ish).
Otherwise, sod's law will have me shipwrecked with a box set of Montovani. Eek!

Thanks.

Absolutely. Please feel free to substitute your own personal spiritual book. My own choices? I'm still thinking; music being the hardest of the choices.

Under the rules of Desert Island Discs you get the complete works of Shakespeare and a Religious text of your choice as standard. You get to choose 8 pieces of music (not all the symphonies or concertos - you have to pick one), a book and a luxury.

I'm struggling with mine....

Have my luxury item, have my book, but gosh, music is difficult.

Boccherini's Musica Notturna delle Strade di Madrid.
Castilla, canto de esperanza, Nuevo Mester de Juglarķa.
Van por el Aire, Eliseo Parra
It's Late, Queen (or one of many other pre The Game songs).
Can the B Side of Abbey Road count as a single track?
Cantares, Joan Manuel Serrat (or other)
Hmmm...
Yeah, all right: Black Eyed Peas' I Gotta Feeling. Because I always feel good when I hear it.

The collected games of Honinbo Shuusaku

Go board and stones.

Edit: ooh wait, I get another piece of music!

Alestorm, Captain Morgan's Revenge.
