View Full Version : Montblanc 334 1/2 with rare Palladium nib

Recently got myself a Montblanc 334 1/2. I always loved this era of Montblanc design. I suspect the Pd and Steel nibs of WWII are so good because Montblanc had to re-invent the wheel and make sure the new alloys were as good or better than their gold ones.

It has a Palladium nib because, during the war, the Nazis prohibited the use of gold by civilians. This one I found has an OM tip and writes super-well!

Oh that's pretty, and I really like the characteristic of that slight indentation on the sides of the stroke, like a slight shading or accent with that nib/ink combination right at the edge.

Got one in the mail today but the piston is stuck ! Got it soaking in cold water . Hope I can get a tad of water inside to soak the dried ink loose so the piston will release , otherwise I'll have to find someone to send it to for service .

Might want to just pre-emptively send it. It most likely needs a new cork. Trying to turn the piston may break something. I recommend Francis Goosens. He's repaired several thousand dollars worth of my vintage pens.

I soaked it loose but it only retracts part way . You can see about 1/16" of the piston in the window . It moves easily but only so far . I sucked water into the barrel and set it in a empty cup for thirty minutes and half of the water had slipped past the piston . Needs to be serviced by a pro , no doubt . Piston looks like rubber but could be ink soaked cork . I'll take your good advice .Thanks .

Chris , If you don't mind my asking , how far back does the piston in your pen retract ? Mine only moves around 1" . Gonna have to wait a few weeks to see about sending this one off cause I have bought two 256's since this and another Pelikan 450 set , pen money is getting a bit tight .
